American Teen

We went to see a preview showing of American Teen at the ICA in Boston last night. It's a fun documentary about "seniors at a high school in a small Indiana town and their various cliques."

The ICA is a nice place to see a movie. Needs a little more leg room, but the sound system more than made up for it.

The movie was beautifully shot, and focused on the lives of four students. At the end of the film, I cared what happened to them, especially Hannah. She was the quirky, artistic girl. I told Carol that Hannah reminded me of a friend. She said Hannah reminded her of ALL my friends... Hmm. Yup. That's right.

The movie was so well done that sometimes you'd forget that it was a documentary, then remember that these kids are real.

Great soundtrack too. Imogen Heap's Frou Frou is in it with Breathe In [ YouTube Video ].

American Teen opens in theaters on July 25th.

  1. Good movie indeed. I watched it about six months ago and when I heard the concept I figured it was going to be another day in the life type of movie, but like you pointed out I really began caring about these kids and what happened to them.

Of course, as a parent this freaked me out a bit as well by getting a peek into what my kids might end up facing.

  2. Based on your review, I think that I will go see it now. I was very skeptical in the beginning however. Thanks Steve!
