Did I want THAT?
Um, no.
So I took to twitter to see what people were saying.
They were not happy.

I'm glad some people can find the humor in this. ;-)
So I enabled Facebook, then went into the settings and shut off Contacts and calendar connect.

I think it undid the damage.
Let me know if it works for you, or if there's a better way to get rid of all these unwanted contacts.
Note: Someone told me to uncheck the Facebook group in my address book on my iPhone. I didn't have one of those.
That first Tweet was hilarious...
ReplyDeleteIn contacts.. hit groups... uncheck "all facebook"...
ReplyDeletedefinitely worked for me!
That was easy, thank you!
Deletethanks! this is what worked for me...my screen did not look like the one above, and I did not get offered Settings, Calendar or Facebook at all. I was sure surprised and spooked to see so many names in my contacts that I did not recognize.
DeleteThank you so much. Quick and easy to get rid of all those annoying names.
DeleteThe groups thing works. Top left of your contacts list has a "Groups" tab, go to it, at the bottom, uncheck Facebook
ReplyDeleteI don't see "All Facebook" under "Groups". I went back into Facebook settings, and turned Contacts to ON, but see no change.
ReplyDeleteI did this but it doesn't stop the mail app from suggesting facebook email addresses when adding an address to the "to" field on a new email...
ReplyDeleteworked for me thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt added a GAZILLION birthdays to my calendar, and I've unchecked the "Birthdays" calendar from showing on my calendar, and they are STILL SHOWING. I cannot get rid of them!!
ReplyDeleteThis was so helpful! Finally got them off of the email thing. I was starting to lose hope...THANKS!
ReplyDeleteGo to your settings> then the facebook app> turn your contacts to OFF...This will remove unwanted fb contacts from your contact list!
ReplyDeleteya that worked. thank you so very much.
ReplyDeleteyup turning the contacts to off in the settings fixed it. thanks
ReplyDeleteworked for me thank God!
ReplyDeleteI literally cant stop laughing at the first tweet! Thanks for the fix... What a horrible idea this was.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing..
ReplyDeleteFor some reason it also deleted my original contact list and wiped out the IDs of every phone call and text. If I follow your instructions I have an empty contact list, if I reverse it I get back everyone on FB EXCEPT my original list which did include people who do not use FB. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem! It seems to be all contacts or no contacts! Very frustrating!
DeleteYour example worked! Thank goodness!
DeleteDid any of you find out how to restore the lost contacts? The ssme thing happened to my girlfriend.. Damn frustrating!!!
DeleteThat just happened to me too....so frustrating. Does anyone know how it fix this?
DeleteTHANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!
ReplyDeleteI've been having the most iritating morning trying to undo this through Facebook directly.
Finally, your solution was the fix.
this worked! THANK you!
ReplyDeleteThank you so so much, genius.....worked a treat! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you!!! I was ripping my hair out trying to get rid of these. Even deleted all unwanted "friends" from my facebook page to no avail.
ReplyDeleteHug you if I could!! THANK YOU!!!!!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately on iphone 5 there is no "groups" button to hit on the contacts page :( I am still stuck with 700 extra contacts.
ReplyDeletemake sure you hit submit/save changes button after, but def worked for me. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! You saved me from a lot of frustation :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve!! This was VERY helpful. Updating under settings removed al the Facebook contacts. Thanks so much! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Steve - I actually went ahead uninstalled FB and reinstalled with the contact setting and calendar settings to off and I am back to normalcy - thanks again :)
ReplyDeletethank you! worked !
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU! I have the "Groups" on my iPhone 5, I uncheck it, everything is great, BUT the next time I return to my contacts THEY ARE ALL BACK. GO AWAY!!!!!!! But your way worked. Yay! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU! Steve's way worked the best for me. They all went away, and any contacts that were "merged" were unmerged. The other way didn't do that. I have my calendar back!!! I have my contacts back!
ReplyDeleteHey Steve, what about my photos syncing with facebook? I can't seem to figure how how to stop that. I've tried turning off everything. Thank goodness I didn't do the calendar and contact thing.
ReplyDeleteHelp, Kathy
thanks for share, i will try
ReplyDeleteSteve's suggestion worked, I no longer have all the useless FB info, but my real contacts lost their home addresses. How do I get those back.
ReplyDeletenothing is working for me, im screwed, even worse, the "group" button in contacts doesn't always show up...help?
ReplyDeleteI turned off my calendar and contacts and it didnt work. I also dont have the group setting in my contacts. I deleted facebook, shut my phone off and they are still showing up. They are also showing up in my notifications. Ive had the new IOS6 since it came out but all the sudden this stuff shows up. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteI am getting very frustrated....nothing has worked for me. I tried the settings/FB. Turned off the calendar and contacts. Deleted FB account/ uninstalled and then installed. Obviously it didn't work or I wouldn't be typing this. My all contacts does not have a group tab...only a bending arrow? What does that mean?
ReplyDeletesign in to icloud.com
ReplyDeletego to contacts, write facebook on search, all facebook contacts will appear, select all and delete(by using the button on the left corner) ! Voila! :)
Steve's method is exactly what the guy at the Apple Store did, and it worked like a charm!
ReplyDeleteI think it works for folks that didn't back up their contact list before the new install. If your FB contacts we there before the update, it assumes that all contacts were on your personal phone contact list. Looks like I'll have to manually delete all 200 of my Iphone.
ReplyDeletethis is just another example of nazi information takeover strategy ...watch out for FB, Google, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft....in their insane war on each other they will do anything to extend their slimy tentacles into your life and then make them impossible to remove without serious damage...a bit like the Aliens in, uh, Alien.
ReplyDeleteThanks soo much, I think you helped A LOT of people, you're awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I was so annoyed by this. FB is personal info. and my phone is business so I don't need them there!
ReplyDeleteWorked like a charm, thank you!
ReplyDeleteWorked like a charm, thank you!!!!
ReplyDeleteworked for me thank you!!!
