Trader Joe's Whole Foods' Healthy Pasta ( Low Salt )
This Healthy Pasta recipe combines products from three stores, although you could probably find the ingredients in one if you substitute brands.
It's really hard to find a low salt pre-made pasta sauce and good tasting whole wheat pasta.
The majority of pasta sauces have insane amounts of sodium, and most of hte whole wheat pasta I've tried has a cardboard texture.
In this recipe, I've found a great combination, a low salt sauce and a good tasting whoe wheat pasta.
Trader Joe's Whole Foods' Healthy Pasta ( Low Salt )
Trader Joe's Organic Marinara Sauce
Sodium: 25 mg
Serving Size 1/2 Cup
Servings Per Container 6
Whole Foods' Whole Wheat Penne Rigate
Roche Bros' Cooked Perfect Angus Beef Meatballs
Cook the pasta according the the directions on the package. This pasta takes a while to cook. I think the longer you cook it hte better it gets.
Microwave the meatballs.
Heat the sauce in a saucepan.
Transfer the heated meatbals to the saucepan.
Drain the pasta and put them back in the pot.
Add the sauce nad meatballs mixture to the pasta pot, cover, and let sit for a bit.
Serve.

Chinese Honey Salmon
I made this recipe up the other night when I was looking for somehting to marinate salmon with other than soy sauce. I wanted something light.
Here's what I ended up with:
Chinese Honey Salmon
Cooking Spray
Chinese Cooking Wine
Honey
After placing sliced fresh Atlantic salmon in a baking dish coated with cooking spray, I poured the Chinese Cooking Wine on the Salmon. Then I lightly drizzled honey on each piece of salmon.
Cook for 10-12 minuted in a 350 degree oven or until salmon comes apart in flakes.
This is a very easy and tasty dish.
Serve with mixed vegetables.

Teaching Videoblogging, Live Video and Jimmy Fallon at Emerson's Social Media Class
I had such a blast at David Gerzof's Emerson College Social Media class last night.
My Videoblogging History and Jimmy Fallon.
I began with a brief overview of how I got started in videoblogging, then told the story of how Jimmy Fallon used videoblogging to have a conversation with the audience when he was putting together Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
As I told the story, and showed the videos, Jimmy saw the tagged #ESM activity on twitter and sent a shout out to the class.
Very cool!
Video Tools You Can Use.
I then got into showing the tools you can use to record and share video from the device you have in your pocket.
I gave a brief demonstration of the Kodak Zi8, Panasonic Fx-37 and iPhone.
Showed how you can use an XShot to do a crane shot.
I asked everyone in the class who had the ability to record video to come up to the front, then I described my thought process behind shooting a live video. Then as they videoed me, I showed how you can go live using Qik from an iPhone.
How Should Students brand themselves and use social media to get hired?
Answer: Look at what Yifei Zhang did when he wanted to get hired by Hubspot. He created a blog about him wanting to get hired by Hubspot, Hey Hubspot! That landed him an interview.
Emerson Social Media Blog Post: ESM Reaches 4.3 Million People.
Disclosure: Kodak, Panasonic and XShot
You can read some of these stories and learn how to put video online in my book, Get Seen: Online Video Secrets to Building Your Business.

boston.com 'steve garfield' multimedia
Do a search on Boston.com under Video/Audio and you'll see al of my video content from my blog, Steve Garfield's Video Blog. The videos also provide text transcripts.
I've allowed boston.com to post my content here for years, since they do link back to my site.
I'm aware that they also make money of my videos from contextual ads.
I've never asked them to share the revenue with me.
What should I do now?
- Continue to allow them to list my content in multimedia search results
- Ask them to share revenue with me
- Ask them to remove my content
Share your thoughts...
Asking Boston.com Permission to post a comment
Posted a comment on this article which talks about how students are creating videos for college admissions.
Asking boston.com permission to post a link to my book which helps people make videos.
Update: The Boston Globe responds by removing my comments:
It's ironic because for years I've let them used my video content on Boston.com without asking for compensation for the ads they run along side my content.
Then the minute that I try and promote something on their site they delete it.
I've Got a Blog at Boston.com
I just noticed that Boston.com has rolled out a feature where readers can have their own blogs.
It's easy enough to create.
Here's my blog at Boston.com.
It would be nice if it had an easier to navigte to URL.
Some nice features are:
1. The ability to create your own title.
2. The ability to provide your blog with a unique image
3. THe ability to set up a blogroll of your favorite sites.
Some features that need further enhancement are:
1. Allow embedding of HTML. I'd like to post flickr photos without having to re-upload them to Boston.com
2. Alow editing of HTML. This would allow editing of uploaded image display size. Now, if your photo is too big, you have to resize it and re-upload.
3. Allow more of the blog post to show up on the blog page when there's a photo at the top. Right now, 'Read More >>' just shows the text and omits the image.
The full post can be seen when you click the post's permalink.
Where Are the Blogs?
Finally, what I'd like to know is if Boston.com is going to feature any of the reader's blogs or blog posts on the site. I'd like to see readers posts integrated with the news content and not relegated to a blog ghetto.
BostonNOW did it right:
As of now, I can't even find a page that lists user created blogs. All they have is a list of their own boston.com blogs.
Update: They also list Boston Area Blogs but not those hosted on Boston.com yet.

The Easiest Way to a First-Page Ranking on Google
Great article by Nate Elliott for Forrester, The Easiest Way to a First-Page Ranking on Google:
"...if you're not optimizing your videos, you should start. 'Blended search,' the practice in which search engines display videos, images, news stories, maps, and other types of results alongside their standard search results, has become increasingly common on major search engines. And optimizing video content to take advantage of blended search is by far the easiest way to get a first-page organic ranking on Google."The article talks about a number of things that are covered in my book, Get Seen, along with something that I wasn't aware of, submitting your Video Sitemap to Google.
I'm looking into this and am going to implement it for my sites.
Have you implemented Google Site Maps for your videos?

YouTube Video Has News Value, Wins Journalism Award
Anonymous Citizen Journalists Receive Polk Award for YouTube Video:
The anonymous Iranian citizens who captured and distributed the shooting death of a demonstrator during last year’s Iranian re-election protests have received one of journalism’s highest honors — the Polk Award. The announcement marks the first time that the award was given to an anonymous news source.via [ NewTeeVee ]
Neda Agha-Soltan, an Iranian demonstrator who was shot and killed during a protest in Tehran last year, became a symbol of the Iranian resistance not long after the shocking video of her death began appearing on YouTube and other video sharing sites. According to the NY Times, the video was originally sent to Voice of America, The Guardian newspaper and five others in Europe, asking those who received it to pass it along. It was an Iranian expatriate in the Netherlands who first posted the video to Facebook, which started its online distribution.
The Polk Awards recognized the video producers despite the anonymous nature in which it was created and distributed. “This video footage was seen by millions and became an iconic image of the Iranian resistance. We don’t know who took it or who uploaded it, but we do know it has news value,” award curator John Darnton said in a statement.

How To: Mac OS X - Switch Audio Sources with One Click
When using the freetalk wireless headphones on my Mac, you need to go into audio settings to swith between the headphones and external speakers. It's a pain.
I found a solution - SoundSource.
Soundsource is a Mac OS X app that lets you to switch your audio input and output sources with a single click from the OS X menu bar.

Freetalk Wireless USB Adapter
I've been testing out the freetalk wireless headphone/microphone. The sound quality is great and I've really enjoyed using it for some recent skype interviews.
It's easier than using my own headphones with a USB mic. You don't have to worry about talking directly into the mic. One problem I have with the device is the USB dongle that allows the headphones to be wireless.
As you can see from the photo above, the USB cable that optionaly connects the headphpones to the USB dongle, gets in the way of two ports on my MacBook Pro. The Firewire 400 and Firewire 800 port. It's been suggested that I leave the headphones plugged in all the time so they are always charged up, but I can't do that when it gets in the way of my hard drive cable.

Reinventing the News: What the students are saying
I recently visited Dan Kennedy's Reinventing the News class at Northeastern. One thing I like about visiting his class, in addition to talking with the students, is that he has them write up a blog post about guest lecturer's visits.
Here's a sampling of what the students are saying:
The Churchville Press - Steve Garfield:
Red Sunglasses - Hi, I’m Steve Garfield from stevegarfield.com…
Here's a sampling of what the students are saying:
The Churchville Press - Steve Garfield:
Steve Garfield, video blogging guru and author of “Get Seen: Online Video Secrets to Building Your Business”, recently made a great presentation to our Reinventing the News class on Monday. In his talk he shared a few of his experiences with us over the years of his video work and also shared some advice on how to become a real video blog master.the baglady in lace - Oh Pioneers!
A true pioneer on the video blogging frontier, Garfield was posting videos online in 2004, a year before YouTube even hit the scene. Since, his work has flashed across television and computer screens nationwide through networks like CNN, the BBC and Rocketboom, morphing Garfield into some sort of guru in the art of getting seen, an expertise which he further explains in the book he recently released: “Get Seen: Online Video Secrets.”Bay Area Sports from Boston - Steve Garfield:
I think one of the best examples of first-person video reporting he gave us was his walkthrough at his Jamaica Plain voting center from election day 2008. He was told he couldn’t videotape anything, but he knew the law and tried to explain to the people there he could, in fact, videotape the surroundings. Ultimately he left, but getting the entire process on video like that provides insight that you can’t really express with words.STATE YOUR NAME - Another Famous Garfield:
Garfield began blogging in 1997, but it was not until 2004 when he started to Vlog (believe it or not Garfield came before YouTube, folks! Impressive!).L.H.P erspective - The Video Blogger:
Now, with the creation of new media and phone video devices, Garfield is vlogging more than ever before.
“I can click a button and send a video to YouTube.” said an excited Garfield “We now have the ability to both record and share with a device from your pocket!”
Things have changed so much since Garfield began video blogging. Now, it is not that hard for any regular person to get their stuff seen. Using CNN as his example, Garfield illustrated that all you have to do is upload your information onto their website and you’ve got a chance of having your video appear on CNN.mark disalvo [dot] com - Video Blogging and Social Media Expert, Steve Garfield Stops By:
Steve Garfield is the type of guy that had a vision and stuck to it, for no reason other than it’s what he enjoyed doing. Entrepreneur may not even be the appropriate word, but I’m sure that’s the label most will slap on him.Island Empress - How to be seen:
He stopped by Northeastern yesterday to explain his approach to video blogging, which is where he’s found much of his individual success. As he described it, he’s been doing it since 2004, before YouTube.
Blogging has become one of the most popular forms of social networking. Today, companies are trying to market to various demographics through websites like Twitter and Facebook. For inspiring media sensations, the most difficult part of blogging is getting people to follow your blog posts and comment on them. Steve Garfield, who I consider to be a Video Blogging Extraordinaire, was a guest speaker in our “Reinventing the News” class and shared his passion for blogging and offered some tips on how to get seen.Boston is a playground - Steve Garfield visits NU:
Steve Garfield, longtime video blogging expert, visited my Reinventing the News class. Garfield works with companies such as AT&T, Nokia, Kodak and and Panasonic, as well as media outlets like CBS, ABC and PBS. He came to our class to talk about taking video while reporting. The next chapter of the class will be on taking video, so Garfield kindly joined us to offer his words of wisdom.Elitist Scum - Taking the bull by the horns…:
Sometimes Garfield creates these reports on nothing more than his iPhone, streaming his videos through sources like Qik.com and saving them to YouTube.this blog is a mover - Guest Speaker: Steve Garfield:
When asked how we can make vlogging into a career, Garfield replied that we should use these tools more to extend our reach in the world of web journalism.passion for fashion - The world of videoblogging:
“Get a job that pays you money,” he said. “This is your passion, that you should pursue in addition to that thing.”
Garfield emphasized that being able to make money off of the thing you love takes time. But investing time into something, even if you’re doing it for free, can often pay off in the long run, as it has for him.Update:
Red Sunglasses - Hi, I’m Steve Garfield from stevegarfield.com…
Steve Garfield is a video blogging expert who has been on the edge of the field since before YouTube (I know, I can’t remember that far back either, but it was only 2005!). He is the author of “Get Seen: Online Video Secrets to Building Your Business.” When he came and spoke to my class, he had some advice: Own your own name on the web (as he does, which you can see from the title of this post), and post, post, post, which clearly, I don’t always follow.

Kodak Zi8 SD Card Exclamation Point!
I've found two ways of clearing the Kodak Zi8 SD Card Exclamation Point error status.
1. Unlock the SD Card
2. Remove all files from the SD card via your computer file manager
This third option was suggested to me but I did not need to try it.
3. Format the card while it's in the Kodak Zi8.
I tried this, but the Zi8 came back with a Red Exclamation Point, so I ended up using option 1 on one card and option 2 on another. Both worked.
What has worked for you?
Update from Kodak:
"It is likely that they are lower speed cards - we recommend class 6 but can use class 4"

The Kindle Chronicles - Interview with Steve Garfield
The Kindle Chronicles - TKC 82 Steve Garfield (Audio):
Steve Garfield of SteveGarfield.com has been videoblogging since January 1, 2004, and as of January he is now a Kindle author. His new book, Get Seen: Online Video Secrets to Building Your Business, came out in Kindle and other eBook format as well as paper, published by Wiley. We spoke on February 9, 2010, by Skype (including a video recording I’ll post separately) and discussed how eBooks in the future may succeed in providing what I found myself describing as Engaged Social Reading. Steve’s next event promoting his book will be February 25 at 6:30 p.m. at Fenway Park, Boston.TKC 82 STEVE GARFIELD (VIDEO Excerpt):
This is part of the video recording for my interview with Steve Garfield. I am going to need to finish reading his book, Get Seen: Online Secrets to Building Your Business, in order to figure out how to improve the synchronization between the audio and video here.Len recorded this with Skype and saved it with Call Recorder. The audio needs to be synced a little in the video.

VentureBeat: Macworld: LeVar Burton plays Steve Jobs (video) , originally uploaded by stevegarfield. CC BY-NC-SA
Rocketboom video corresponent Steve Garfield captured Burton/Jobs up close in this clip.
This clip was shot on an iPhone, edited on an iPhone, then uploaded to YouTube.
It was all about being prepared to shoot video when presented with the opportunity.
When I saw LeVar Burton moving towards where I was sitting, I pulled out my Kodak Zi8, but the SD card had an error, then I pulled out my Panasonic Lumix FX37 but the SD card was full, so I grabbed my iPhone nad shot the video with that.
It was timely and good enough for VentureBeat to publish it on their site.
