CharlieCards to replace CharlieTickets

Mac Daniel writes in the Boston Globe this morning, CharlieCards to pull into T stations - The Boston Globe:
"Want to transfer your paper CharlieTicket's value to a CharlieCard?

You can't. Just use up your CharlieTicket by the end of the month and dispose of it properly."
What?

This can't be right since my CharlieTicket has an expiration date on it of 2008 AND I have just under $20 on it!

I went to the Starts and Stops blog to read the MBTA Powerpoint Presentation but you need Powerpoint to read it and I don't have it installed on this computer. It figures that the most current information about this program is in Powerpoint. So lame.

Over on the MBTA site it says in a post, T Pushing a New Form of Currency: CharlieCard:
Transit activists say they're worried that riders, particularly bus passengers, will be forced to use the more expensive CharlieTicket or pay cash because they lack access to CharlieCard machines.
This doesn't make musch sense to me either. I really am at a loss to understand what is going on.
