Shepard Fairey ICA Boston
We went to a members preview of the Shepard Fairey exhibit at the ICA in Boston last night.
There are signs that say something like, Please do not take photos in the galleries. I never liked those signs. Is it a polite request or a requirement. Hard to tell from the sign.
As I left the gallery heading out into the long glass hallway, I looked back and saw this man standing in front of this huge Fairey image. So I took the photo.
There was a press review the night before and you can see lots of photos were taken at that event.
Arrested Motion: Releases: Obey x ICA - Box Set & Print
The Function Key: shepard fairey: supply & demand.
Why can you take photos at a press event and not during regular show hours? Too distracting?
The exhibit was scheduled years in advance, so this was planned prior to Fairey doing the Obama poster. He's done a lot of work. Twenty years worth.
One thing that was pretty cool is that while in the museum, you can dial 617-231-4055, and hear commentary as you walk throught the museum. You can even try it from home. Key in #'s 100-118.
It's also available on the ICA's web page at Shepard Fairey, Supply and Demand Audio Commentary.
While in the museum we did talk about Fairey's appropriation of the photo used in the Obama poster. Was it copyright infringement or fair use?
