How to Value a MySpace Mega-Group

Micah Sifry writes at techPresident, How to Value a MySpace Mega-Group.

He quotes members of the TechPresident group blog in his post.

I like this quote he grabbed from me:
"When you are running a campaign, you are looking to find the important percentage of volunteers who will help you do the work of the campaign. Email addresses might just sit back and donate, MySpace members have a greater chance of leaning forward and participating."

BostonNOW is ours

BostonNOW 05.03.07
The first post I made to my BostonNOW blog, yesterday at 5:00 PM, is in the BostonNOW newspaper today.

That is amazing.

You can download a pdf of the print edition of BostonNOW over here.

I'm still trying to find a way to navigate to the blog posts from the BostonNOW.com main page.

My video response to John Edwards

I just posted My video response to John Edwards over on techPresident:
"John Edwards just sent me an email that prompted me to act.

The email asked me to contribute money to help him put an ad, about ending the war, on TV in Washington. I didn't do that.

It also asked me to create a video. That I did."
Read the full post over at techPresident.

CTU ringtone from '24'

Here's another page with the CTU ringtone from '24'.

What I want to know is how to move the CTU24.wav file from a laptop to a Treo 700p?

Putting it on an SD card and popping that into a Treo 700p does not work. The file does not show up when I place the card intot he Treo.

Putting it in Palm Desktop for syncing over forces it into the SD card xfer window, but I want it in the phone memory.

Sending it as an SMS message to the Treo results in a text message without an attachment.

I can't even figure out if the Treo 700p has a file manager application to let me look around the phone memory.

How To Sync a Palm Treo 700p

Problem:
New Palm 700p does not sync after changing usernames.

I set up a Treo 700p with a username Treo 700p and synced it one time to the Palm Desktop.

Then when I took a look I saw that my desktop user with all the data from my previous palm was under username "Steve Garfield", so I renamed that user to Treo 700p, to match what is on the Treo.

Now it doesn't sync anymore.

Solution:
Delete the username on the device by performing Hard Reset on the device which deletes all the data on the device and the username on the device.
Steps for the Hard Reset.

a) Disconnect Treo from charger, if connected.

b) Remove the battery cover and then the battery.

c) Press and hold down the Red phone button on the device.

d) While still holding the Red phone button, reinsert the battery and do not release the Red phone button.

e) When the "Access Powered" screen appears, release the Red phone button.

f) The next screen will ask you to "Erase All Data". Press the UP arrow button. That resets the device.

If it can't make connection, click the HotSync Manager icon in the System tray on the Desktop.

Only the Local USB should be checked.

If not, check the Local USB option in the list.

Unplug the device and perform Soft Reset on the device.

Close the Palm Desktop software if it is opened.

Connect the device firmly wait for one minute and then perform HotSync.

Margery Eagan, Follow Me on Twitter

Margery Eagan writes about Twitter in today's Herald, Notes on an inbox: Please stop boring everyone to death:
"Forget having to go over for supper and feign interest in the 98-page Baby is Born scrapbook. Now we’ll get the scrapbook updates constantly. In real time. Whether we want them or not."
Actually, if you had taken the time to learn how twitter works you'd know that you need to ADD someone to receive their updates.

I heard you on the radio yesterday, talking about this, and had to shut you off because you don't know what you are talking about.

I use twitter, I like twitter and it's more than just random updates from people you don't care about.

You can use twitter to:

- let people know where you are so they can meet up with you
- share links to interesting stories
- tell your friends you won a webby
- tell your friends you are in an interesting conference session and to join you
- coordinate 30 people to meet for dinner

I could go on, but in order to write about something like twitter, you should actually use it and understand it first.

Follow me on twitter.

ABCNews.com Fails Nokia N93 Video Demonstration

In this Be Seen Be Heard video at ABCNews.com we are shown how to make a video and send it in to ABCNews.com.

Unfortunately, the camera is not being held correctly in the video. If you hold your Nokia N93 like shown, you won't be recording any video.

I know. I tried it.

I sent ABCNews.com an email to let them know.

I'm having a conversation with ABC News. ;-)

A Guide to the New and Improved ABCNEWS.com.
Users will also find it much easier to submit to us video from cell phones and their home video cameras -- video that we may choose to broadcast on our site or on one of our television news programs.

Save Internet Radio

Dear Congressman Capuano,

Please save Internet radio by co-sponsoring H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act.

The Copyright Royalty Board’s decision to increase royalty rates for webcasters is going to turn off my Internet radio and I do NOT want that to happen. Please co-sponsor H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act.

I believe that artists should be fairly compensated for the music they make, but putting my webcasters out of business will only hurt artists more. They depend on Internet radio to get their music out to fans and build new audiences. When the webcasters go off the air, so do artists. Please co-sponsor H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act.

Internet radio is one of the only bright spots for independent music and diversity. We NEED Internet radio. Don’t turn it off. Co-sponsor H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act.

Thanks,
--Steve

Richardson would invite Iran and Syria

Presidential Democratic Debate:
"MODERATOR: Governor Richardson, if you were representing New Mexico in Congress, despite your opposition to the war, do you think you would vote to fund the troops?

RICHARDSON: No. Let me be very clear about my position. This war is a disaster. We must end this war. This is what I would do if were president today. I would withdraw all of our troops, including residual troops, by the end of this calendar year. I would use the leverage of that withdrawal, coupled with intensive diplomacy in three areas. One, a political framework led by the United States where the three religious entities in Iraq have a coalition government, divide oil revenues and possible set up three separate entities. Number two, I would convene a security conference, and I would invite Iran and Syria. They’re going to be tough, and we should be tough with them. But we have to have an international peacekeeping effort. And, thirdly, I would have a donor conference. I would have other countries take over the reconstruction responsibility and the security of Iraq."
Bill Richardson for President.
