Hello, are you here?

Emergent Chaos: On Being Fully Present:
Mark and I both felt that the audiences were not engaged. That many peoples' open laptops, Blackberries, etc, distract them from the people in front of and around them. I think its a shame. A great many people (myself included) travelled to be at BlogNashville, and they spent the time looking at their screens, rather than the people around them. I believe that this is another aspect of future shock: That we have these distractions for which we have not yet evolved social norms.
I totally agree, but not totally. ;-)

At vloggercon, I was monitoring the IRC channel to engage those people that were not able to attend in person.

That was worthwhile.

Sometimes I'll go to a website that the speaker is talking about, or look something, or someone, up on Google. That adds to what the speaker is saying.

Going through your email, reconfiguring your server remotely, or catching up on RSS feeds probably doesn't.

So some use of laptops at conferences are valuable.

Spread Firefox but don't get it here

It's funny that the Spread Firefox website, created to help promote the downloading of the Firefox browser, doesn't have a link to the Get Firefox download page.

The Daily Show - Real News

The Daily Show is a good source of news.

They present real news in an entertaining way.

It's not 'fake news' as some people call it.

It's real.

I love Ed Helms.

A Newton Podcast

Macworld: Secrets: Geek Factor Podcast #2: Newton.
We here at Macworld have decided to experiment with the Podcast format. So we’ve taken a page from the magazine and inaugurated the Geek Factor podcast, covering tech topics on an irregular basis.

Former Macworld intern Cyrus Farivar is the host of this Podcast. In this second 29-minute installment, the topic of choice is Apple’s Newton PDA, which still has a legion of followers even seven years after it was discontinued.
Interesting, but i don't have 29 minutes to listen to a FORMER intern talk about a FORMER apple product ;-)

How many podcasts do you listen to?

Hi, My name is Vinny.

Help Me Get A G5. [ QuickTime Video ]
He wants people to send him money to help him buy a Macintosh G5. In the video he says that if 20,000 people give him 25 cents each, he'll get $5,000, but PayPal takes 30 cents per donation so if 20,000 people give him 25 cents each, won't he then owe PayPal $1,250?

Best moment: "Help me prove Jace wrong."

Donate to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF).
I donated because I want to be able to videotape babies walking in front of TV sets, then capture that footage onto a Macintosh, have the freedom to then copy and distribute that video on a CD, DVD, the web, or any future method that might be invented.

Just got an email with the subject: Hi, its Linda Wood.

Hi Linda.

Stop emailing me.

The Mel and Clint Show

Mel’s Life - Cooking Cajun!:
I’ve been informed that there are certain rights of passage for video bloggers. I thought I’d jump in with my own cooking video after being inspired by Richard - so tonight, we’re cooking cajun.
This is great!

I LOVED that episode.

I’ve got a question. Why do you always do the dishes when making a video in the kitchen?

So funny.

I like the video of you waiting.. and the dog.

Clint: “It’s a bowl!”

Mel: “All right.”

Perfect video!

I like it because of it's TV-style program guide.

The fact that it features my video blog on the front page is exciting!

Eugene Mirman gets an anti-gay phone call

Sooz points us to another reason why Eugene Mirman is America's greatest living comic.

Telemarketing Rep: Mr. Mirman, there is a Christian based telephone company in your area.

Eugene Mirman: There is?!

Telemarketing Rep: Yes, called United American Technology.

Eugene Mirman: This is great news!

Human reporters wear glasses

Dave Winer is doing a podcast broadcast this weekend on KYOU-AM in San Francisco.

He talks about the difference between bloggers and professionals - Scripting News: Broadcasting a Podcast:
I remember how hard people were on us when we blogged the DNC, they expected, somehow, that we would turn into amateur Wolf Blitzers or Dan Rathers, maybe Ted Koppel or Judy Woodruff.

Nahhh, we're still bloggers, and the style guide for blogging, imho, is "Come as you are, we're just folks." There's no James Earl Jones voiceover saying "This is CNN."

The reason you send bloggers to a place like the DNC is so they can tell you what they see. If you read the blog regularly, you now have some data you didn't have before. That's all we can do. But if you get enough known views of an event, you can figure out what happened. The problem with the mainstream media approach is that they strive for an inhuman sameness, after all, they're pleasing the same commercial sponsors, fighting for the same ad dollar, so how different could their programming be? But human reporters are different, we bring color, we make mistakes, we wear glasses, all different tints. That's why we want lots of bloggers and lots of podcasters. What we lack in polish we make up in numbers.
Head meets nail.

I Hate Will Baldwin

Dear Will,
I have 17 messages from you in my email.

Please stop sending me email to advertise your "No Compromise! Cheap software Inc partisan".

I don't want cheap software.

Inexpensive, high quality software, maybe. But cheap, no.

In your email you me you ask, "Do you want ALL Microsoft Software in $75 - $275 ? slur obdurate.

No Will, I don't.

I've looked up the registrar of your domain and I'm thinking that I'd prefer to buy my software locally rather then order it from you in Russia.

And I looked up slur obdurate too. Slur is to blacken someone's reputation... and obdurate is stubborn. What that has to do with selling software from a spam email, I have no idea.

Thank you for listening,
-Steve

vlog in Swedish is vlogg

Blogumentary: VLOG NEWS.
Chuck has all the vlog news that came out in the last 18 hours.

20 galna vloggare på nätet

This just in from Sweden!

Seems postiive.

Update
We now have a translation by Kristina:
Report from the beerfestival
stevegarfield.blogs.com/videoblog

With camera in hand, the video-producer Stever Garfield goes out on the street to report beer festivals, bad weather and fires. This is an example of the potential in personal vlogging - soon TVstations such as CNN will get competion in quick coverage. Don't miss The Carol & Steve Show where you can follow Steve and his wife Carol on adventures in the everyday. Or learn how best to clear your stairs of snow in
Boston.
Here's the full translation of the whole article.

So we can see AND talk to each other?

I was on a worldwide videoconference of video bloggers last night.

Alex Williams from Corante set it up as part of their FeedFest, using a Flash based web videoconferencing tool called FlashMeeting.

We've talked about allowing our videos to be more than just video on a blog. We've been thinking about the next step that would allow our videos to interact with each other in some way.

After this experience, I have to say that videoblogging is so last year. ;-)

I love videoblogging and all, but the experience of seeing and hearing a group of videobloggers interact from all over the world was very exciting.

Maybe the next step is doing away with recording, log and capturing, editing, compressing, and uploading?

vlogcasting
Live vlogcasting. That's it. It's real. You can have a conversation. You can see Eric Rice's kids.

You can hear my mom talking about videoblogging:
Millie:
I love it i enjoy doing it, I enjoy looking at it, and i love to hear all the comments all the feedback that I get.

It's a real thrill to talk to all of you.

I see everyone smiling over there.

Erik Lagerway:
Millie you are a true inspiration to video bloggers worldwide
You can watch me put on funny glasses and goggles.

Those moments were a lot of fun. We also talked about videoblogging techniques, issues and projects.

Here's the link to the videocast, so you'll be able to watch the whole thing and hear the important topics we discussed.

Markus Sandy shared his thoughts on his blog.
