Tedeschi Homicide

Boston Police have released surveillance video of the holdup of the Jamaica Plain Tedeschi, showing clerk Surendra Dangol was completely cooperating with the holdup man - who then shot him to death (that part was redacted).

Police say they are looking for a white sedan, possibly a 1986-1992 Plymouth Acclaim. They're also looking for a man who may have talked to the murderer in the 20 minutes he loitered outside the store before going in and robbing and killing Dangol, a Nepali immigrant saving to bring his wife and daughter here. Anybody with information should contact homicide detectives at (617) 343-4470 or the anonymous tip line at (800)-494-TIPS (or text TIPS to CRIME).

More filmaking ideas for those that don't want to be on camera. ;-)

DJ Earworm - United State of Pop 2009 (Blame It on the Pop) - Mashup of Top 25 Billboard Hits

Lots of time and effort went into this mashup. A great example of making a video without a camera or having to be on camera. The record companies should love this.

"Please step off me and press A"

"Please step off me and press A" - Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus -
Nintendo's Tech Support Forums

I'm In A Loop
I'm stuck in a loop of : 'Please step off me and press A' on the Wii Fit Plus software when trying to complete the initial set up.

After resetting the sync between the Wii and the Balance Board a number of times, replacing the batteries, powering off the Wii unit, talking to tech support for an hour, it sounds like the Wii thinks I am standing on the Balance Board, but I'm not.

Please Return Me
I got a return authorization and am FedExing the Balance Board back to Nintendo for repair.

The tech support rep told me that it would take 2-3 weeks to repair.

You Own Me
I'm wondering why they don't just send me a replacement unit to fix my problem.

It's brand new. Why are they are making me wait for them to fix their problem?

On Blip.tv: Samsung mobile - Recommend This Video

Just noticed this new social media sharing feature of blip.tv videos. As you are watching the video, a little cell phone pops up and shakes, it says, "Samsung mobile - Recommend This Video." When you click it, it features social media sharing options such as Facebook and Twitter, along with Email, Mobile and Embed. Very sweet design.

Closer look:

Samsung Social Media Sharing on bip.tv

Resulting twitter post:

[Video] Featured Videos on the Blip.tv Home Page have Text Overlays: http://blip.tv/file/3009599 (Sharing brought to you by Samsung Mobile)
I wonder what percentage of people will leave the "(Sharing brought to you by Samsung Mobile)" ad in the twitter post?

Would you?

9 Swans a Swimming, 2 Hawks a Killing, 1 Dead Squirrel

Walking Jamaica Pond this morning we saw a number of unusual events.

First we saw nine swans swimming inthe pond. You never see that.

Next we saw a hawk that had just killed a squirrel.

Amazing the moments you can capture when you have a video camera handy.

These videos were shot with an iPhone 3GS and uploaded directly to YouTube.

We authored a new Christmas song about the experience.

Two Days Before Christmas

Two days before Christmas,
We were walking Jamaica Pond.

We saw lots of geese a laying,
Nine swans a swimming,
Two hawks a killing,
One Dead squirrel.

Then we walked to Centre Street,
Into JP Licks,
and had a Medium Decaf Latte.

Get Seen Book Grader Sales Chart

This is the Book Grader sales chart for my book Get Seen. It's exciting to see the sales increase as we get closer to the ship date.

Note: This is the chart for Amazon.com sales and does not include sales for other online outlets which include Borders, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Millon, 800 CEO Read, Indie Bound, Chapters (Canada), Amazon.ca (Canada), and The Book Depository (UK).

I just got an email from Amazon.com that said the book is going to ship sooner than they had initially thought.

Here's what the email from Amazon.com said:
The item(s) listed below will actually ship sooner than we originally expected based on the new release date:

Steve Garfield, David Meerman Scott "Get Seen: Online Video Secrets to Building Your Business"
Previous estimated arrival date: January 19 2010 - January 25 2010
New estimated arrival date: January 07 2010 - January 14 2010
Rachel Happe has a formula she uses to explain this:
"Expectations - Reality = Happiness"
Thanks to everyone who has already ordered the book. If you haven't, you can order Get Seen here.

It's fun to see the chart rise. Thanks for your help.

Streamy Awards: Best Vlogger

I love this quote about popularity contests, "I hate them until I win, then I love them."

I'm happy to see that the Streamy Awards's have a category for Best Vlogger.

That's great because it brings us back to the individual, as opposed to all the other categories that are attached to a Web Series.

There's nothing wrong with Web Series, I like them, but I'm glad this individual category got in there, even if they still label the data entry boxes with the word 'series'.

If you are heading over to vote, here's my info, so it's easy to copy and paste. Thanks!

1. Go here http://www.streamys.org/submit/public-submissions-people/

2. Category: Best Vlogger

3. Person: Steve Garfield

4. Series Name: Steve Garfield's Video Blog

5. Series URL: http://stevegarfield.blogs.com/

Here's what the form looks like when filled out:

Streamys: Best Vlogger

Thanks for supporting web video!

Update on how the Streamy's submission and voting works:
The Streamys are primarily a merit-based awards mixed with a small splash of popularity contest.

The series or individual with the most submissions in each of the non-Craft categories (click here for a full categories list) will automatically become an Official 2010 Streamy Awards Nominee. Only one submission, per IP address, per category, per day will be counted. For example, if the same person submits the same show in the same category 300 times in one day, only one of those votes will count.

With the exception of the Audience Choice Award, the remaining nominees in every category will be decided by members of the International Academy of Web Television.
Note:

This is a nomination for Best Vlogger. Winners will be announced in Los Angeles on Sunday, April 11, 2010.

Free Public Skating at Fenway Park. Ticket Giveaway This Morning

Waiting for polls to open.
File Photo

City to give away tickets to skate at Fenway Park | Universal Hub:
"Boston will distribute tickets for free public skating at Fenway on two days next month at community centers across the city this Saturday between 9 and 11 a.m. (except in Chinatown, where the hours will be 12-2).

Boston residents (and, yes, proof of residency will be required) can get up to four tickets per family for either Jan. 3 or Jan. 10, according to the mayor's office. Roughly 3,000 tickets will be distributed. The rink, now set up to let the Bruins and the Flyers play on New Year's Day, will be open to ticket holders during the afternoon and evening, thanks to sponsorship from SunLife."

Note this from the comments at Universal Hub:
According to the Mayor's Office, there are 3000 skate tickets equally distributed amongst the 16 Centers listed. Each Boston resident can get up to 4 tickets for themselves and their family. So, there are approximately 187/188 tickets per Center (3000/16) of which the first approximately 47/48 persons can get the entire allocation if they each take 4 tickets.

Something to think about if you are considering waiting out in the cold for these. Good luck!
At 8:47 AM there are approximately 60 people in line at Curtis Hall in JP.

The line for waitlist tickets:
In line for Fenway Park Skate Tickets

A video report from Curtis Hall:

We ended up with nothing.

Had some nice chats though with people in line. After the tickets were gone, there were approximately 80 - 100 more people in line. There was talk of renting out the ice for an hour, but rumors had the cost to do that at $10,000/hour.
