Install: Lutron Maestro Lightswitch Sensor with Switch MS-OPS2

BEFORE: Two Black, One Ground.

AFTER: Black to Black, Black to Black, and Green and Ground to Ground.

ATTACHED TO WALL. 

It works, and controls two bathroom lights. 

The 'Leviton 1-Gang Decora Plus Screwless Wall Plate, 80301-SW, White' fits perfectly.

For the first steps, 1, 2, and 3 I would re-order them as 2, 3, and 1. 

1. Connect the ground wire, 2. Connect the safety cable, and then 3. Secure the extension tube.

Then, just before step number 4, add a step that says, “Pull down the wires”, because giving the wires some slack will make it a lot easier to plug in the wiring harnesses.

Then there is a missing step after number five. There needs to be an added step that says, “Slide down the motor cover, and then screw it in to secure”. Then you go to the last step which is, “Slide down the trim”.

Extended Strikes Plates Protect the Edge of Your Door Frame

What do you do when the strike plates on your door frame don't protect the edge of the frame?

As you can see from the photo below, the latch on the door strikes the door frame, and THEN it strikes the strike plate. 

When I asked the builder about this, they said, "Those are standard strike plates. You have to turn the handle so it doesn't hit the door."

What!

What?

Because of THEIR POOR DESIGN, I HAVE TO THINK ABOUT this every time I close a door?

No. 

Searching the web, I found out that I am not alone. 

I found this post, Craftsman Trim and Extended Strike Plates, talking about the same problem.

Solution

It turns out that there's a solution. Extended Strike Plates.

You can get them from The Hardware Hut.

You have to measure from the center of the screw holes to the edge. 

I ordered 1 3/4" Don-Jo Extended Lip Strike Plates.

These strike plates worked so well. I installed eight of them in minutes. It was SO EASY!  Here are before and after photos:

I tried to follow directions and drill a hole 3/4 of an inch down from the ceiling, but the drill won’t fit that close to the ceiling, so I ended up doing 1 1/4 inches. When drilling a hole for the anchor I found that 3/16 of an inch worked well.
