Meeting with Someone Who Didn't want to Pick My Brain

This is awesome! @jillianvorce
Image: Me with Jillian Vorce

I just met with Jillian Vorce and had the best time. We met at 1:00 today at JP Licks for coffee. She paid. Thanks!

On my way home I glanced at the time and saw that it was 3:40!

We'd been together for 2 hours and 40 minutes!

OMG!

The time flew by.

We'd met at the Seth Godin event in Boston last month and a few people stayed around after and chatted. That time, we stayed for about 2 hours after the event.

My time with Jillian was energizing. I'm an upbeat, positive person, and the combination of us together was amazing.

She wasn't there to ask me for anything.

She wasn't there to 'pick my brain.'

She wasn't there to promote her business.

Jillian just wanted to spend some time together.

How refreshing.

We talked about ONE MILLION THINGS.

Here are a few tweets I sent out to Jillian with links so she could learn more about some of the things I mentioned. If you haven't been following me for a while you might find them interesting. ;-)

The value of tweeting about what you had for lunch:

The first meeting of video bloggers in New York City:

The first episode of The Carol and Steve Show from 2005. We did 52 episodes:

Adobe Photoshop Elements 11: Please insert Disk Photoshop Elements 11 to continue, a photo by stevegarfield on Flickr.

I'm installing Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 onto a MacBook Air via a shared DVD drive on my MacBook Pro.

After getting through 99% of the install, Photoshop Install dialog box says:

Please insert Disk Photoshop Elements 11 to continue.

Well, the disk is inserted.

Now what?

Update:

Online Adobe chat was a failure. I was disconnected.

Then I tried twitter.

They answered.

This worked.

Simple.

Use the mouse to tilt and scroll wheel to zoom. Change parameters with the control panel.

I can see some interesting uses for this technology, especially related to Max Headroom!

I gave Webcam settings a quick trial run with a Logitech C920 and was immediately impressed with a few things.

STANDARD QUICKTIME VIEW

WEBCAM SETTINGS

Image: Webcam Settings

As noted above, there are A LOT of SETTINGS that you can control. Brightness and contrast work fine and are the two settings that I'll probably use most.

AUTO FOCUS

Image: Webcam Settings - Shut Off Auto Focus

Having a webcam auto focus can be a problem, especially when you don't want it to. ;-) I'll be shutting off auto focus a lot.

ZOOM

Image: QuickTime Standard View Zoomed with Webcam Settings

Also on this panel is Zoom, which I might play with. I'm not a big fan of the zoom feature on any camera, in general, but it's something good to have in case I'm live streaming and want to get closer to the subject without moving the whole laptop closer.

Backlight compensation is a very good feature to have in case you need it.

You can get Webcam settings in the Mac App Store.

You can get the C920 on Amazon.com.

Chocolate Cinnamon Strip Cookies

Chocolate Cinnamon Strip Cookies (Part 1)

Chocolate Cinnamon Strip Cookies (Part 2)

Chocolate Cinnamon Strip Cookies by Carrie

1 1/3 cups sugar
1 Cup (2 sticks) PLUS 2 Tablespoons butter, softened
2 Eggs (Room Temperature)
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 Cups All-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup (6 ounces) dark chocolate chips
3 tablespoons sugar mixed with 3/4 teaspoon of cinnamon for top

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Beat 1 1/3 cups sugar, the butter, eggs and vanilla in large bowl.

Stir in flour, baking powder and chocolate chips.

Divide dough into 4 equal parts. Shape each part on lightly floured surface into a roll, 1 inch in diameter and about 15 inches long.

Place rolls on ungreased cookie sheets; flatten slightly with fork to about 5/8-inch thickness.

Mix 3 tablespoons of sugar and the cinnamon; sprinkle over the 4 logs.

Bake 13 to 18 minutes until light brown on the edges. Slice into about 1-inch strips while still warm. Makes about 5 dozen.

Note:
Just make sure to not over cook them and cut them while they are still warm. Enjoy!

DO NOT CALL IT NEMO:

NY Times: A Fish, Er, Storm Named Nemo:
The Weather Channel’s new names for winter storms are catching on, much to the chagrin of the National Weather Service, which has advised its forecasters not to follow the channel’s lead.

A brief reminder about winter storm names...:
Earlier this year, The Weather Channel, owned in large part by Bain Capital, announced that it was going to take it upon itself to assign names to winter storms so that the public can easily keep track of them, similar to what is done internationally with hurricanes.

The Weather Channel is doing this completely on its own, after no coordination with any other weather forecasting outlet including the government-run National Weather Service, which is the official authority on serious weather matters in the country.
