Bundle Up New England Webpage Needs a Clickable URL

Bundle Up New England
NBC 10 Boston has a promotion called Bundle Up New England.  This is what the webpage says:

"While you're out buying coats, hats and mittens for your holiday gift list, please think about donating.

All you have to do is open your phone to scan the QR code below, which will take you to the Amazon "Bundle Up" gift registry."

They have neglected to place a clickable URL to the Amazon "Bundle Up" gift registry on the webpage.

I'm on your webpage with a computer. Give me a link to click!

I scanned the QR code with my phone, went to the Amazon "Bundle Up" gift registry on the webpage, copied the link, emailed it to myself, and copied and pasted it into this blog post for you.

Here is the Amazon "Bundle Up" gift registry link:

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3RIM90K6QZBM1/ref=hz_ls_biz_ex

UPDATE:

They saw this post and added a clickable link.

Great!

I ordered a bunch of jackets. ;-)

NEST Thermostat Install (Replacing Aprilaire)

In Massachusetts, see if you are eligible to get a discounted NEST thermostat ($29.99) and a FREE Google Mini through MASS SAVE.

Installation was easy.

Note: Contact an electrician to install this for you if you are not comfortable working with electricity,

In my configuration I had to keep track of Yellow, Blue, White, Green and Red.

The only tricky thing occurred when the Google Home install app told me that I was not getting power from the C wire (The Blue one). I checked its connection, then replaced the batteries that came with the NEST thermostat, and everything worked.

German Chocolate Chip Oatmeal cookies

I loved the German Chocolate Chip Oatmeal cookies from Lucas Confectionery that we had at Natalie and David’s Rehearsal Dinner.

Now trying to recreate the recipe based on this one…

https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/10245/oatmeal-chocolate-coconut-chewy/

I modified it by only using 1/4 cup of sugar and substituting one cup of semi sweet chocolate chips with one cup of dark chocolate discs cut up with a knife.

I also wrap the dough and parchment paper and put it in the refrigerator overnight.

The Best Grilled Salmon

These are very good tips. I used olive oil and an electric grill/fryer with a cover (affiliate link, see photo below)

“The Best Grilled Salmon | foodiecrush.com #salmon #recipes #grilled

What Side Do You Grill Salmon On First?

Grill the salmon first skin side down. Whichever variety of salmon you choose, choose a filet or salmon cut with the skin on. The salmon skin provides a layer of safety between the grill grates and the fish’s flesh as it cooks.

Keep a lid on it. Maintain a more consistent cooking temperature with the grill lid covering the fish as it cooks, creating the same environment as an oven.

Flip the Salmon Once On the Grill

Flip once, and you’re done. To ensure the the fish holds together and doesn’t fall apart or stick to the grill grates, grill the salmon skin-side down for 90% of the cooking time.”

Duxbury Harbor

Watched people putting their boats in the water, and had coffee and a chocolate croissant from the bakery. Snug Harbor Fish Market looked good, and the Raw Bar at Island Creek Oyster Farm is nearby. Two stops for next time.

Fishermen's View

Fishermen's View:

A new boat-to-table restaurant and fish market on the Cape Cod Canal.
Local fishermen Bob and Denny Colbert have fished out of the Sandwich Marina for over thirty years. After completing marine engineering degrees at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, the brothers fell in love with fishing, and while they began with just a small boat, they now have three large commercial fishing vessels.
In August 2015, the two brothers obtained an adjacent piece of land on the Cape Cod Canal constructed the boat-to-table seafood market, restaurant, bar, and wholesale complex.
With a focus on fresh, locally sourced seafood coupled with stunning views of the canal and marina, the brothers hope to give guests a truly unique dining experience and glimpse of modern fishing – Fishermen’s View!
Restaurant & Bar: open daily year round for full-service lunch and dinner, serving the Cape Cod Classics as well as globally-inspired dishes with our local seafood.
Fish Market (on the northwest side of the building) open daily year round 8am-7PM for retail seafood, our full restaurant take out menu, made-to-order sushi, local groceries, wholesale, and more!
Sandie's Outdoor Bar: a fast-casual ocean-front bar on the East corner of the property, open during the summer months, weather permitting

How To Stream NBC on an Internet Only TV in your Cable TV Home

Let's say you have your main TV hooked up to Xfinity in your Great Room, but then you have a second TV in your bedroom that doesn't have a cable TV box, and you want to watch NBC TV shows like The Today Show on it.

Here are three solutions to allow you to watch NBC broadcast TV on a TV where you've 'cut the cord'.

  • 1. Use an Antenna
If you within a good range of a broadcast antenna, you can hook up a fairly inexpensive antenna to your TV and watch live broadcast TV, just like they did back in the old days.

2. Link Your TV Provider to the NBC and NBCU Family of Apps

With this solution, you need to have an account with a cable provider like Xfinity.

"If you have an account with a participating cable/satellite/digital TV provider, you can link it to the NBC and NBCU family of apps to unlock all episodes in the library and access a live stream of your local station."

Once you connect your app to your cable TV provider, you can watch NBC shows with an NBC app.

3. Use the Xfinity Stream App.

Just like the Xfinity Stream App on iOS, you can use the Xfinity Stream App on your supported smart TV, like the TCL Roku TV.

This gives you access to the full range of channels that you are subscribed to on your main account, along with the cloud DVR service, if that's part of your package.

Xfinity Stream App on Xfinity TV Partner Devices FAQs:

"We work with equipment manufacturers to bring the Xfinity Stream app to compatible Amazon Fire TV devices, LG Smart TVs, Roku devices and other Partner Devices. The Xfinity Stream app offers live broadcast channels, linear cable channels, cloud recordings and video on demand, all without having to rent an Xfinity TV Box from us.

The Xfinity Stream app for Partner Devices is currently offered in a "beta" version that doesn't include the full set of features and functionality that comes with the Xfinity Stream app or the web portal. Future releases of the app will include additional features and functionality, as well as improved stability and optimization. When using the "beta" app, you won't be charged an "additional outlet" service charge. Pricing may change in the future.

Please note that Xfinity X1 is the best way to watch Xfinity TV, and not all features of X1 are available if you choose to use a Partner Device. See below for more information."

Extended Strikes Plates Protect the Edge of Your Door Frame

What do you do when the strike plates on your door frame don't protect the edge of the frame?

As you can see from the photo below, the latch on the door strikes the door frame, and THEN it strikes the strike plate.

When I asked the builder about this, they said, "Those are standard strike plates. You have to turn the handle so it doesn't hit the door."

What!

What?

Because of THEIR POOR DESIGN, I HAVE TO THINK ABOUT this every time I close a door?

No.

Searching the web, I found out that I am not alone.

I found this post, Craftsman Trim and Extended Strike Plates, talking about the same problem.

Here are some photos showing the situation.

Solution

It turns out that there's a solution. Extended Strike Plates.

You can get them from The Hardware Hut.

DJO-9175-630-RC

Don-Jo 1-3/4" (44mm) Radius Corner Extended Lip Strike Plate - EACH (Brushed Stainless Steel)

You have to measure from the center of the screw holes to the edge.

I ordered 1 3/4" Don-Jo Extended Lip Strike Plates.

UPDATE:

These strike plates worked so well. I installed eight of them in minutes. It was SO EASY!  Here are before and after photos:

Sandwich Boardwalk

We visited The Sandwich Boardwalk at low tide. It's pretty narrow, with bump outs to stand in to allow people to walk by.

It was low tide, so there wasn't any water underneath us. I think I'm pretty happy about that because I can't image walking along the Sandwich Boardwalk when there is water underneath it!

Check out this video of our walk:

  • Parking
  • $10 per day
  • Resident and non-resident stickers available
  • Directions:
  • There are three entrances to Town Beach and the boardwalk. To park, visitors can take route 6A to Town Neck Road. There you will find a small parking lot next to Horizons restaurant. If this lot is full, continue down Town Neck Road until the dead end at Wood Avenue, then take a left into the next parking lot. To access the beach via the boardwalk, take Jarves road from route 6A and follow the signs for the boardwalk parking lot.

Where to get rid of Corrugated Cardboard and Styrofoam in Plymouth, MA.

Recycling Cardboard, Week by Week

In our neighborhood you can put out cardboard for recycling if it can fit into the recycling bin, or if you tie it up in 3 foot x 3 foot bundles tied with string, and balanced on the top of the recycle bin.

That's ok if you've got a little bit of recycling to get rid of, but if you've recently moved into a new home, you've got a lot more to recycle, and it would take days and days of cutting the cardboard to the correct size, and weeks and weeks of putting it out on trash day.

A Better Way

A better way to get rig of large amounts of cardboard is to load up as much as you can in the back of your car/SUV, and bring it to the Manomet Transfer Station.

Note: Participation in Town-provided Trash & Recycling, and a permit IS required.

Here's how  you get there and get rid of your cardboard once you arrive.

Lots of cardboard left over from moving.

Filling the SUV with as much cardboard as we can.

Take Old Sandwich Road to Beaver Dam Road

Take a LEFT onto Beaver Dam Road at the Stop sign.

Turn RIGHT into the Manomet Transfer Station

Drive around inside, past the small office

Then, on your LEFT is the first of
two dumpsters for CARDBOARD

Throw, or carefully place, your cardboard
into the dumpster.

There is no need to push any button

The dumpster has a sensor that knows when
to compact the cardboard to make room for more.

Carol happily getting rid of cardboard.

And we are done!
