New SteveGarfield.TV Site

New SteveGarfield.TV Site
SteveGarfieldTV, originally uploaded by stevegarfield. CC BY-NC-SA

I've just put up a new SteveGarfield.tv site.

History: Why A New Page
When I first acquired the .tv domain, courtesy of .tv, I decided to forward it to the SteveGarfield.tv Facebook page. What I've now done, is create a page that I own and control, where I can add more things than Facebook allows. I've also embedded the Facebook Social Plugin, which gives site visitors a view into and a path to the SteveGarfield.tv Facebook page.

New Format: What the New Page Does
It's a splash page that allows visitors to easily be able to:
1. WATCH LIVE programming on The Pulse Network, including my show when it's live

2. WATCH a HIGHLIGHT REEL of past shows. This is great to show prospective sponsors what the show is like.

3. LIKE my SteveGarfield.tv Facebook page, see the most recent posts, and click over to join the community and conversation over there.

4. Follow me on twitter.

5. Link to my main site, SteveGarfield.com
Behind the Scenes: How I did it
Here a couple of notes on how I put this together.

I created the page using iWeb on a Mac. Then I copied it to my Dreamhost web hosting site in a new directory, sgtv.

Then I went over to my domain registrar, hover, and forwarded my .tv domain name, stevegarfield.tv to forward to http://stevegarfield.com/sgtv/index.html.

Redirecting to the new SteveGarfield.tv Site

I enabled stealth redirection so site visitors will see stevegarfield.tv in the browser instead of http://stevegarfield.com/sgtv/index.hml.

I'd love to get your feedback. Thanks.

Joby Gorillapod Cold Shoe to Cold Shoe Adapter

I recently purchased the Joby Gorillapod Mobile kit.

Joby Suction Cup and Adhesive Clip

It's supposed to be perfect for your GPS, but I'm trying to attach a Nokia N8 with OVI Maps to my dashboard.

Here's the Nokia N8 with the adhesive clip.

gorillapod adhesice clip

Here's a suction clip that can attach to the speedometer.

gorillapod suction cup

The problem is that I can't get the two adapters to attach to each other.

Two gorillapods

If I could get two of the connectors that are on top of the Joby gorillapod, attached to each other, back to back, that would be perfect.

I've also been looking into using two standard camera cold shoes, and attaching those back to back.

Any ideas?

Update:

Hey look, this SIMA light I have has cold shoe adapters on each side.

Nokia N8 - SIMA Light - Joby Gorillapod Suction Cup Adapter

This is a cool workaround, but I'm still looking for a better solution.

Update 2:

Cold Shoe

Found what I needed at B&H, Cold Shoe 1. A little pricey.

I need to see if I've got any old cameras around that I can take the hot shoe off of.

New From Kodak: PlayFull Pocket HD Video Camera. Let's Get Small!

Kodak Playfull Pocket HD Video Camera
Image: Kodak PlayFull Pocket HD Video Camera

Ha! I get it, it's playful.

Just saw the PlayFull, a new Pocket HD Video camera from Kodak.

Here are some specs:
Resolution:
1080p—great for stunning playback on your HDTV—HDMI cable included!
720p at 60 fps—for fast action and super slow motion playback
720p at 30 fps—ideal for general recording in high definition
WVGA—perfect for conserving space on your memory card or smaller files sizes for web use

Sensor type:
1/3.2-type, 5 MP CMOS

Lens:
3.9 mm, 35 mm equivalent
44 mm @ 1080p
33 mm @ 720p
33 mm @ WVGA
33 mm still capture

Display size:
1.5 in. (3.8 cm)

Storage:
128 MB internal memory1, SD/SDHC card expansion slot (up to 32 GB card)

File format:
video: MPEG-4, AAC LC
still: JPEG/EXIF v 2.21
One funny thing to note about the amazon.com listing, Kodak PlayFull Video Camera - BlueSilver (New Model).

It has the dimensions as 6.6 x 2.9 x 6.1 inches.

Kodak Playfull ZOOM

Kinda big!

But later down in the specs you can see the actual dimensions of the camera.
Dimensions:
1.6 × 3.9 × 0.7 in. (41.7 × 100.0 × 17.2 mm)
The first dimensions are probably for the box. Ha!

Pocket HD Video Camera vs. Cellphone
The question is, will people need or want a pocket HD video camera like this when their cellphone probably has similar features at 720p with the additional feature of being able to share directly to social media sites from the device you are shooting on, vs. having to transfer your images and videos to a computer first.

Kodak is making the transfer process easier with their Share feature, but a connected device makes it even easier.

What are your thoughts?

Cakewich - How Not to Lose 20+ lbs in January 2011

Cakewich, originally uploaded by stevegarfield. CC BY-NC-SA

I made this Cakewich using Mark Bittman's Golden Layer Cake recipe. Came out great. We ended up baking the cake for 70 minutes at 350 degrees, until a cake taster came out clean.

How to Lose 20+ lbs in January 2011:
#1. Cut out sugar and flour.

This step will actually get you most of the way there. Most people’s primary calories come, in some way or another, in the form of sugar. Even “complex carbohydrates” are digested as basic sugar and have mostly the same effect on your blood sugar. Besides, things like bread and rice have little nutritional value.

So, tomorrow, stop eating them and make your primary calories from food (not drink) such as meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, etc. Eat foods your great-grandmother would recognize, and have more protein than you’re used to. Have bigger meals that include these foods and you’ll feel no need to snack since you’ll be very full.

My supper yesterday was a huge bowl of Tom Kha soup (without noodles). My lunch was shrimp ceviche. Both were awesome and I did not feel deprived at all. Doing this is easy.

3 Words for 2011 from Chris Brogan's Communnity

Mich Sineath created a wordle from @chrisbrogan's 'My 3 Words' post for 2011

I've been thinking about my 3 words for 2011 and was toying with Discover, Expand, and Invest, but I could replace Discover with Learn, and Expand with Grow, to fit into the big picture. :-)

Lots of good words in there.
