Do Not Sit Here

Do Not Sit Here, originally uploaded by stevegarfield.

I saw this on Franklin Street this morning.

Bad corporate citizens.

I don't know who made this decision but it was across the street from the Boston Stock Exchange. Looks like the building used to be Bell Telephone.

Does anyone know the story behind this?

I'm pretty certain those were installed to prevent skateboarders from ruining the surfaces. If you look around the area you'll see ruts and grooves gouged out by skateboards.

Looks like the suits ruined it worse than any skateboarders ever could've.

Well, those are not new and they are certainly nicer than the hideous steel loop things around the corner in Winthrop Square that keep people from sleeping on the benches there. There are better places to sit than in front of this building (which is mostly just a smokers lounge for Verizon employees). Go across the street to PO Square Park for a much nicer sitting spot. They even have grass there.

Yep. They're skateboarder baffles. That place used to be a good skating spot. Now, it's not.
