If you are doing any kind of video editing, you've gotta get Editing Techniques with Final Cut Pro by Michael Wohl.
He says:
When you physically move the camera closer to a subject, the relationship between the subject and the background changes in an organic way - similar to what you'd see in real life if you walked closer to an object. On the other hand, when you zoom in, the background is compressed in a way that our eyes cannot simulate. This odd visual effect can distract the viewer.Ahh, so that's why using a zoom is bad.
