"John Wilpers is out as editor-in-chief of BostonNOW, the upstart freebie newspaper that launched last spring. "I'm sad to hear that John Wilpers is no longer Editor-in-Chief at BostonNOW. John contacted me early on, and I consulted with him on how to work with local bloggers. To me, John Wilpers was BostonNOW.
We call video blogging "video blogging" and not "video podcasting" because it isn't television and it isn't only about news and entertainment. It's roots and all the things that are important to it come from blogging world and remebering those roots are what keep videoblogging going strong.
"Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution: “Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes. In order to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained. The right of belligerency of the state will not be recognized.”"A must read.
"Now that the excitement over reality TV is dying down, a new budget-saving television revolution is upon us: internet video reruns. Later this year, many stations across America will be launching shows featuring some of the most popular web videos you've already seen. They'll also be screwing the producers of those videos – people like me - out of royalties, recognition and more."This is a very important issue for video producers to be aware of. Read the article for more.
For the record, we have no relation whatsoever with YouTube. Users are free to upload videos that originate from that site as long as it does not violate our terms of use.
"As Internet video moves from amateur hour to primetime, the question arises whether professionally produced material will begin to crowd out the user-generated clips that have made YouTube a media phenomenon. Already, a new wave of video initiatives promising higher quality production values are popping up on sites previously known for hosting viral clips."via [ The Daily Reel ]
"'...Mike Folgner, Yahoo's general manager for video, said in an interview. Yahoo's Flickr photo-sharing site will also be adding video, he said.via [ MediaBytes ]
One of our strategies is to put video everywhere you are on the Internet,' said Folgner, who joined the Sunnyvale company last year through Yahoo's acquisition of video site Jumpcut. 'We're going to build a much better destination for you to access all this different content.'"
Wine expert Gary Vaynerchuk teaches Conan that wine tastes just like grass, rocks, dirt, and socks.
"Samberg, Taccone, and 'Hot Rod' director Akiva Schaffer are part of a short-filmmaking comedy trio called the Lonely Island, and Taccone and Schaffer also write for 'SNL.' Samberg starred in two of their heavily forwarded clips. The funnier and more popular of them, a song that first appeared last year on 'SNL,' deserves a spot on the Mount Rushmore of viral video. It has an unprintable title and, in the style of certain ludicrously explicit R&B songs from the early 1990s, offered instructions for how to gift-wrap your penis for the woman in your life."That's ironic.
My favorite example of prudery has to be when Men's Health — a magazine read entirely by people with penises — quoted Robin Williams explaining how to save a stand-up routine. If all else fails, he said, "go for the d—- joke." Can you believe that? A men's magazine afraid of the word dick.
"With a new competitor roiling the waters, the business of toting around boatloads of quack-happy tourists has turned downright cutthroat. And the legal fight’s not the half of it."Feifer ends the article with this about the new tour boat operation:
...the route is solid, the Hydra-Terras are exciting, the views from the harbor beat those from the Charles—but chooses instead to squabble over naming rights, practically insistent on not building an identity of his own.I never would have considered taking this new duck tour until reading this article. Jason makes a brilliant point. I'm going to take that new tour and report back.
This seminar introduces media makers to the process of critically analyzing popular media including broadcast television, film, and internet video. Much of the media we consume reinforces stereotypes, distorts the news, and distracts from the critical issues of the day. By learning how to look at the media we consume as well as make critically, we can develop an enhanced awareness of how the messages delivered through media influence ourselves, others, and the society we live in. We can harness media to make positive contributors to society, challenge cynicism and apathy, and serve as agents of social change. All three are friends and I'm sure I'll meet lots of interesting people prior to the seminar. The cool thing about the Woods Hole Film Festival is that the hallways are outside!
