It’s still hard to believe that Doyle’s is closing.
Thanks again to Gerry, Donna, Eileen, and the team who took care of us for the 11 years that we had Boston Media Makers meetings there on the first Sunday of every month.
For many years Carol and I stopped in for corned beef and cabbage.
It’s the type of place that we would search for when traveling around the world. A classic Irish bar with a lot of character. Sad to see it go.

Virtual Online Meetings with Video Using Blab: Boston Media Makers
Boston Media Makers been meeting at Doyle's Café in Jamaica Plain, MA for 11 years. This is the first year that we took the Summer off.
Bruce Garber helped run our first Virtual meeting. We used blab.im, one of the many video conferencing solutions out there.
Here's what it looked like:
The benefits if blab.im as a video conferencing platform:
1. Easy to use
2. No echo
3. Very clear video with no discernible lag
4. Quickly produced links to radio and video download
5. Embed code (see above) for the video chat. Note: You can pause and resume recording during the chat.
6. Multiple moderators
7. Screen share
8. YouTube video share
Here are some screen captures of our chat:

Boston Media Makers 090609
Oh Snap! It's Violet at Boston Media Makers.
Watch her video where she interviews Emily, Joeseph and me!
More Photos.
Dan Ronken writes a great post about the meeting, Attraction Trumps Promotion - Having a Blast with Boston Media Makers.
This was the most fun I've had at a 'networking' (that's not even the right word, felt more like a gathering of friends) meeting I've ever attended. Our 'three minute' introduction consisted not of sales pitches , but was more about sharing valuable information or asking for advice.
Members of the group were then sending 'real time messages' via Twitter to their extended networks which has an immediate effect of reaching an audience of potentially thousands of people in a matter of seconds. I already knew that blogging generates business, but this is real time communication I'm talking about here. I want to emphasis, this is NOT about sales pitches, it's about connecting with, and helping people.
