The Jethro Tull Christmas Album - The Official Jethro Tull Website.

Brett Milano review.
The Christmas album is a bigger surprise, coming as it does from a band who remain best known for an album-length attack on organized religion, 1971’s Aqualung . Yet a third of its tracks are instrumental and barely half even mention the holiday; those that do are more concerned with family and friendship. It proves rather an occasion to plug back into the Anglo-folk-orchestral sound of Tull’s last essential album, 1977’s Songs from the Wood (two of whose tracks are redone here), with guitarist Martin Barre’s power chords becoming more of a seasoning. Having spent a few years turning up the guitars and looking to relate to current trends (the last studio album bore the unfortunate title Dot Com ), Tull have rediscovered the quirkier threads that made them unique.
Sounds good to me.

Wesley Clark: Change Course.
'In dealing with Iraq, 'Bush made a series of strategic mistakes,' Clark said. The administration did not exhaust all diplomatic options, gain the support of other countries, create a 'realistic post-war plan' or 'level with the American people.'

'Instead of basing life-and-death decisions on hard-headed realism, they were guided by wishful thinking,' Clark said. 'Seven months after the fall of Saddam, violence is growing and the enemy's morale and momentum are increasing.'

'Iraq has become a magnet for every jihadist in the Middle East who wants to take a shot at an American soldier,' Clark said.

'President Bush keeps telling us we should stay the course. But what we really must do is change course,' he said.'
It's time to change course both in Iraq and here at home.

Contestants Paid
?
A strange closing credit tells us that "some participants were paid in connection with their appearances," but we're not told who... maybe some of the contestants had to be bribed to go along with the vicious trickery as well. The male contestant who for no apparent reason smashes an egg over another contestant's head, for example.
Since the ending credits also say, "producers may have consulted with contestants to alter outcomes," I'd guess that the smashed egg was the result of a consultation.

City of Boston Complete Election Results.
Were votes not counted in yesterday's election? What's an uncast vote?

Here are the results of my local district election:

DISTRICT 6 COUNCILLOR
Total Votes 11,456
Number of Uncast Votes 1,425

JOHN M. TOBIN, JR. 8,473 73.96%
FRANCESCA E FORDIANI 2,945 25.71%
Write-in Votes 38 0.33%

If you add up the number of votes cast for Tobin, Fordiani and Write-in, you get 11,456, which matches the Total Votes above.

So that leaves 1,425 votes being uncast.

Doesn't the number of uncast votes seem high?

What are uncast votes?

People who take ballots and don't vote?

Ballots placed into the voting machine incorrectly?

When I voted, I was told to place my ballot into the vote counting machine, face down. No instructions were given as to the ballot's orientation. Front vs. Back was not identified.

I wonder, were votes not counted?

A call to the City Election Department clears everything up. I think.

1. Uncast votes would be those ballots where people did not vote in the District race. They might have taken a ballot to vote only in the Councilor-At-Large race, and skipped the District race.

Now that makes more sense.

2. I'm told that the ballots are counted no matter which way they are placed into the machine. They can be inserted upside down, rightside up, whatever.

Dude, said one reveler with a pink buzz cut. "They're just like the kids from the `School of Rock.'

Actually, Mr. Green argues, it's the other way around. Yes, like Jack Black's character, Dewey Finn, in the hit film, Mr. Green abandoned playing in amateur bands to teach youngsters how to rock 'n' roll, schooling them on the finer points of genres like prog rock, extolling the virtues of Pink Floyd. But he insists that his story is the original and not some well-timed remix.

That's Unpossible - A Ralph Wiggum Tribute.
via [ Kermit the Blog ]
WMD hunters switched to security duties.
Since the Bush administration claims that what is needed in Iraq is not more troops but better intelligence, the leak of a highly critical internal army report last week was an embarrassment for the White House. The report said younger intelligence officers and soldiers in particular were poorly prepared and possessed 'very little to no analytical skills'. There is a major shortage of interpreters, and the report complained they were often misused for errands, such as being sent 'to buy chicken and soft drinks'.

These handicaps compound the problems of penetrating a society which outside the main cities is tribal, with intense village, district and family loyalties. Betrayal leads to blood feuds and killings: in one case a farmer was forced to shoot his own son for acting as an informer for the Americans; if he didn't, the villagers said they would kill the whole family.

I appreciate all of the comments and pledges in support of the 2003 team. And I can tell you the Sox will really appreciate the initiative you took here. It would have been very easy to take a negative attitude with regard to a great team not quite making it to the World Series. Instead, you celebrate what was indeed a turning point in construction of Red Sox teams by saying thank you to the players who showed so much heart this year with dollars earmarked for a great cause. That is quite a statement.

Despite the poor lighting from the partially burned out fluorescents and the requisite musty odor that older things seem to emit when they are stored, the room that makes up the vinyl record library is still awe inspiring. Celtics Top Nets to End Preseason: My Celtics Experience From the 4th Row.
Joshua couldn't make the Celtics pre-season game last night so he gave me his tickets! He said he only wants $11 for them, but I think they're worth more. They were in section one, right at half-court, four rows from the floor.

I had expected a little more legroom, but I guess the Fleet Center has to cram as many seats in there as possible.

It's a great location to watch the game from, looking at the scoreboard makes your neck sore though.

THE PLAYERS
Going into the game I was excited to see Jiri Welsh. The first time he touched the ball, he couldn't catch it and it went out of bounds. :-(

He didn't do so well in the five minutes he played. I'm sure he'll do better as he gets more playing time.

Vin Baker looked amazing. Paul Pierce makes getting baskets look easy from anywhere on the floor.

Raef LaFrentz did a great job getting both offensive and defensive rebounds. He's going to work out just fine.

Both Marcus Banks and Mike James are what you'd call speedy!

THE CROWD
Since we had a few empty seats around us, we were visited my many different people all night long, who chose to try out our neighboring seats.

THE CHANGING CAST OF CHARACTERS SITTING NEXT TO US:

The Three Teenage Boys Sitting In Our Seats:
I asked them if we were in teh right section and they quickly moved down. then when other people came they more over to the next section. Later they moved farther away. I think they spent their whole night moving all around the Fleet Center. What are the ushers there for anyway. They didn't care one bit who was sitting in any of the seats. Maybe after hte season starts they enforce the tickets more, but from this experience I might just grab a $10 ticket and go sit in the $140 seats myself.

The Teenage Girls Behind Us:
These teenage girls spent all their time on the cell phone talking about boys and getting up and down and running over to see a boy who was a ball boy. They even sat forward in their seats so that their piercing shrill voices would go right in my ear. Thanks girls.

They Guy Who Yelled 'WALKER'.
So the guys sitting in the row in front of us yells, 'WALKER'. I was more like 'WAAAAA-KEERRRRRRRRR'. Does he think it's amusing? I guess.

The Two Boys Beside Us:
These two little kids had Celtics shirts on and were nicely behaved. Between the 2nd and 3rd quarter, shirts were thrown into the stands. Well some guy jumped up in front of the little kids and grabbed the shirt. The Celtics shirt-throwers on the court told him to give it to the little kid that he jumped in front of. He said no. So a guy sitting 3 rows back went out and bought the kid a Celtics shirt and gave it to him. That was so nice. The little kid went up and shook his hand and thanked him.

The Father and Three Little Kids Who Like To Kick Chairs:
OK, so just the little kids were kicking the chairs. They were only there for one quarter though.

Celtics Wives:
Behind us were the Celtics wives. Their little kids were so cute. They were so excited to get on the scoreboard camera.

I'd like to know who the blonde was? It looked like she just got off a modeling shoot.

THE CROWD WENT NUTS
The crowd really rocked the rafters and made so much noise it was amazing. It didn't happen during the game though. The crowd went crazy to win some black Celtics baseball hats. Do they call them baseball hats? Anyway, the announcer tells the crowd to make some noise to win a hat and the crowd made noise.

They also go crazy and dance when the camera puts them on the scoreboard. Typical fan when the camera captures them:

1. Bored
2. See's themselves on scoreboard camera
3. Stand up
4. Wave Hands
5. Shake Booty
6. Look up at scoreboard
7. Keep looking at scoreboard
8. Shake booty
9. Point at logo on shirt

Over all I'd say it was a good time. Seeing the Celtics up close allowed me to see the fun they were having in court especially Eric Williams and Walter McCarty.

I'm gonna watch some games on TV this year.
