Seeing People at SXSW. See Me Today at 1:10.
My main goal at SXSW is to see people.
People who I have connections with online, but only see once a year.
People who I know online, but never have met.
People who have read my book, Get Seen.
People who I don't know.
People who need people are the luckiest people in the world.
;-)
SuperMeetup!
Last night was lots of fun at two events, the first was the SuperMeetup! at Maggie Maye's where I met lots of filmmakers and showed them how to stream live for a laptop.

We did some interviews and and I think the lightbuld went off for a few people. That's me and Dan Berube.
Wiley Author Party
Next up was the Wiley author party at the Cedar Door. It was such a beautiful night and the Cedar Door is a great venue for a party because it's both indoors and outdoors. I met so may nice people and enjoyed talking with everyone.
Here's me and Amanda Congdon.

It's always great to see Amanda. This photo reminds me of the first time we met in NYC, in January 2005, when I became the Boston correspondent for Rocketboom.

Such a long time ago.
Come See Me Today at 1:10
If you are at SXSW, come see me today at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore on the 4th floor of the convention center. I'll be signing my book, Get Seen, at 1:10 - 1:30 PM. Books will be available for purchase.

After that I'll be tweeting out for Where in Austin is Steve Garfield?, so make sure you are following me on twitter.

"1st person to find me at SXSW gets a FREE Kodak Zx1."Find me first and you'll be seen with your own Kodak Zx1.
Good luck.
;-)
My Plans for SXSW
I'll be heading down to SXSW tomorrow and am looking forward to it. I can't imagine how many people I'm going to meet there. Looking forward to meeting peole who have read Get Seen.
I'd also like to record some interviews for the book's community site.
I like Chris Brogan's post about meeting people at SXSW, where he says, I'm There To Meet You:
I totally agree with the 'Say Hi" part. If you see me, say hi. It might be the only time we see each other.I’m There To Meet You
Don’t be shy. If there are lots of people, just come on up and say hi. It’s why I’m there. If you’re normally shy, PRETEND you’re not shy. Want some hints on how? Here’s my post on how to be sexier in person...The worst thing you could possibly do is tweet me a few days later and say, ” I saw you but didn’t want to interrupt you.” That’s why I’m there. Please come say hi.
That's how it is at SXSW.

How To Use Video SEO and Google Video Sitemap To Jump To The Top Of Google Search Results
Benjamin Wayne writes a guest post on Techcrunch that includes an explanation of Google's Video Sitemap, How To Use Video SEO To Jump To The Top Of Google Search Results:
Have you implemented this?
Submission, Not DiscoveryWith traditional web pages, Google utilizes crawlers to discover and index web content. Unfortunately, Google can’t read Flash very well (although it is trying), and as a result, most video content is invisible to Google’s search crawlers. Therefore, the best way to appear in Google’s blended search results is to submit your video to Google using a Video Sitemap. This is similar to an XML sitemap, but is formatted specifically for video, and only contains information about your video content. It is submitted using Google’s Webmaster Tools.
The most common error in Video SEO is to assume that because you have submitted the web page on which a video resides, that the video content itself is being indexed. You’ll also need to make sure that you have a robots.txtfile on all video pages, to ensure that Google can easily verify that the locations on the Web you’ve submitted do in fact exist, and that they contain embed codes which indicate the presence of a video.

Joel Spolsky Tells Us How to Write a Good Blog, Quits Blogging
How Hard Could It Be? By Joel Spolsky: Let's Take This Offline:
"what's the formula for a blog that actually generates leads, sales, and business success? I didn't even understand it myself until last year at the Business of Software conference, when one of the speakers, a well-known game developer and author named Kathy Sierra, blew me away with an incredibly simple idea that explains why my blog successfully promoted my company while so many other blogging founders foundered.
To really work, Sierra observed, an entrepreneur's blog has to be about something bigger than his or her company and his or her product. This sounds simple, but it isn't. It takes real discipline to not talk about yourself and your company. Blogging as a medium seems so personal, and often it is. But when you're using a blog to promote a business, that blog can't be about you, Sierra said. It has to be about your readers, who will, it's hoped, become your customers. It has to be about making them awesome."
Alex Beam Once Again Writes About Something He Does Not Understand: Twitter
Alex Beam does not get twitter because he does not use it.
All a-Twitter? Not:
The pope doesn’t. The Dalai Lama does.Same garbage he wrote in 2008, Twittering with excitement? Hardly:
Jon Stewart doesn’t. Conan does.
I don’t.
I have never knowingly tweeted, and to my 18 loyal followers I say: Don’t wait up. The Globe maintains a Twitter feed for my columns which recently attracted this e-mail: “Fungie the Dolphin would like to follow your tweets.’’ Well, it’s a free country.
Who really cares what I am doing, every hour of the day? Even I don't care, and I certainly don't have the energy to thumb-type little inanities on my cellphoneCommenter TT nails it and writes:
Alex Beam's entire view of Twitter seems to be based on following lackluster twittering politicians and his 1 tweet about turbulence (uh, no wonder he has only 18 followers). With that experience how can he really understand the value of this network? Can he really be informed enough to make a value judgment? If that is what is considered reporting today then no wonder the newspapers are losing money hand over fist to the internet. I'll let the rest of the Twittosphere describe what they value about Twitter, but I suggest that you dig into the medium and then write a real column.
