IN AMERICA, SOMEONE is burned every 17 seconds.I've only been using a gas stove for three years, so when I reached over the stove, to see if the meatballs I had in the microwave oven were done, I was surprised when the flames from the gas stove set my shirt on fire!
I looked down to see the flames climbing up my shirt. I quickly patted on the flames to stop them. They were pretty insistent at trying to crawl all the way up my shirt, but as I kept hitting them they subsided and finally stopped.
Whew!
My hands didn't even get burned. The dinner came out fine and I'll be careful around the stove from now on.
