Milla Jovovich stars with Adrien Brody in Dummy , an indie pic that marks the directing debut of Greg Pritikin, who also wrote the script.
Joshua, Christine and I went to go see it this evening. Getting into the theater was troubling since we had to cross a picket line of people yelling scab at us. There are posts from them here and here.
We didn't actually cross the picketline, we just went behind it.
And I wasn't a scab because I was not a person hired to replace a striking worker.
Don't get me started about parking in Sommervile. Nightmare.
The movie, Dummy, soon made all the trouble getting into the theater well worth it.
From the opening shots I knew we were in for a treat. The photography was very well done and the acting was perfect.
Adrien Brody's performance at times reminded me of Charlie Chaplin, and Writer/Director Greg Pritikin confirmed his influence, in the Q and A that followed the film.
Milla Jovovich was powerful in her roll as a failing rock and roll singer who switches to singing Yiddish music to try to make a success of her band.
Illeana Douglas, as Adrian's sister, gave a stand out performance.
You can see Dummy on May 2nd at the Sommerville theater at 2:00 PM. It's part of the Independent Film Festival of Boston.
It's going to have a stong word of mouth just like My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I hope it gains as much success.
