It's Jerry Time! Wins an Emmy

Congratulations to Orrin and Jerry Zucker for winning an Emmy last night for Outstanding Broadband Program - Variety for It's JerryTime!

Orrin emailed me the news from France:

It's 9am here in France and I just saw Jerry accept the Emmy on the live webcast. Though he didn't thank you in the speech, I wanted to do it personally. As you know, we couldn't have done it without you.

I met Aaron Belyea of Alphabet Arm Design today while at a meeting with Dave Balter at BzzAgent.

Aaron's design firm shares the same office space. I thought this wall of logos was so cool. It was really fun to look at all the logos on the wall and see how many companies I knew.

For the latest episode of her new video blog, cookbook author Nina Simonds is bouncing around her kitchen throwing together what she calls the "best dumplings ever." She's funny and charmingly scatterbrained, with red ballet slippers on her feet, eye glasses perched on her head, and a voice hoarse from talking and talking and talking.

Also in the kitchen is Julie Lutts, her tall blonde recipe tester; Ingrid Schwamb, her personal assistant; Maureen Yasi, a shorter blondish recipe tester; and Steve Garfield, the quirky Jamaica Plain-based video blog pioneer who tapes the show. Everyone is laughing, cooking, getting bossed around, and mugging for the camera. It's like they're not really doing anything serious here, which is why Simonds's vlog, spicesoflife.com , is becoming a hit.

Staff Sergeant Kyu H. Chay, 34, of Fayetteville, NorthCarolina, died on October 28, 2006, in the Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, from injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his combat patrol. Chay was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

My friend, NBC News cameraman Jim Long, videoblogs from his trip around the world with the Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

Jim has been twittering to give us an insude look at how news is produced for TV and now he's videoblogging on MSNBC's The Daily Nightly blog.

This is one of the best adoption's of videoblogging I've seen by a major US news organization.

Schrod with Peach Salsa

Last night carol brought home some Schrod from Legal Sea Foods so I made a version of Nina's Mahi Mahi recipe with what we had on hand.



I coated the Schrod with Salt, Pepper and Olive Oil.



This salsa has has peaches, Lime Juice, onions, orange juice, cumin, salt, and pepper in it.



I grilled it for 5 minutes on each side, then put the salsa on top and added some green beans.

Yummy!

When I went to watch a recorded episode of 'On The Lot' on my Comcast DVR, I got this message from the FCC.

Due to FCC rules, this program has been blacked out. Please tune to channel 811 WNAC for Fox HD programming

This message doesn't help me when I'm recording a show in my DVR. It's weird because the message came up about 6 minutes in, and then stayed on the screen for about 5 or 6 minutes.

What FCC rule could have blacked out this show?

Derrick Z. Jackson has been writing the best commentary on the presidential debates, he talks about Rudy Giuliani today, A debate goes nuclear:

"Giuliani said, 'It's unthinkable that you would leave Saddam Hussein in charge of Iraq and be able to fight the war on terror,' even though Saddam was not linked to 9/11 or Al Qaeda and did not have weapons of mass destruction. With nuclear statements like that, I doubt a lot of Muslims see these particular Christians as the ones to move them into modernity."

Derrick Z. Jackson is keeping it real.

I'm not happy with any of them.

They have no experience, are on the wrong side of issues, and are pandering to voters.

Justine started watching, along with over 250 people in her chat room. It was actually fun to watch together. I made a few new friends in her chat room. All she needs is a rear view mirror on her MacBook.

Ignite Boston

I went to Ignite Boston last night at Tommy Doyle’s in Harvard Square. It's easy to find if you know that it used to be the House of Blues.

I Twittered that I'd be there early, at 5:00, to check out Halley's new SD1000.



Got a text message at 5:00 from Chris Brogan telling me that he was in Harvard Square, so we triangulated our positions and headed over to Tommy Doyle's where we sat at the bar to wait for Halley. After connecting with her, Clarence showed up too and we all had a grand old time. Do you know Clarence? I've visited his blog, being sent there by Eric Rice and CC Chapman. I'm glad we finally met in person.

I totally wish I was fast enough with the video camera to capture Halley singing an Akon song. She rocks. I told her about the Akon controversy.

We headed up stairs and for the main event at around 7:00. Scott Berkun gave a great presentation about the themes of his book 'The Myths of Innovation' aided by big pictures. I talked to him afterwards and told him the ENIAC's flashing lights were added just for show. Scott told me that reporters have been getting the story wrong for centuries. I'm interested in reading his book.



The Ignite organizers didn't expect such a large crowd. I'm sure they'll be getting a larger venue for the next one. The speakers who knew how to use the mic to be heard got the most attention. Those that held the mic like it was an afterthought couldn't be heard at the back of the room at all.


A bunch of us headed downstairs for more drinks. I met a few people from Boston Media Makers and Podcamp Boston. Our server was Kat McGivern, listen to her music on her MySpace page. She was so cool.

It was a good time.
