We also talked about Dr. Horrible. Mark explained that Act I of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is a satire on vlogging. I was wondering why it was overly long... I need to watch that again before it's gone.

Fox 25 News at 10: A monkey, 3 inches of meat, a dog, a nude guy, and tomatoes are back

Fox 25 News at 10 in Boston just had the best sequence ever. Originally aired on July 17, 2008.

A service monkey named Richard, 'she likes her monkey', a NY man only got 3 Inches of meat in a Subway foot long sub, the other 7 inches was a knife.

The anchors can not get through this story without cracking up. They can't talk about why they find it funny though. That made it even more funny to me.

Then to top it off, they tease the news coming up at Fox 25 News at 11:00. Even more surreal:

Full frontal nude guy on public access, a dog can't go to work, and tomatoes are back, but something else is banned!

Here's a selection of video blog posts I'll be showing at Northeastern University tonight where I'll be a guest lecturer for Ravi Jain's politics class.

We'll be looking at examples of citizen journalism, political videoblogs and mainstream media coverage...

Here's a video from September of 2004, 150 Feet. Probably my first citizen journalism report on Massachusetts elections and how poll workers are always standing too close to the polling place... It's illegal.

DNC 2004 Convention in Boston
In July of 2004, the Democratic National Convention came to town and credentialed bloggers for the first time. They did not give me credentials. So I decided to file a video report every day the convention was in town. It was very popular.

McCain: Learning to get on the internet himself, Will not email or blog.

McCain sees himself in Teddy Roosevelt mold:

He said, ruefully, that he had not mastered how to use the Internet and relied on his wife and aides like Mark Salter, a senior adviser, and Brooke Buchanan, his press secretary, to get him online to read newspapers (though he prefers reading those the old-fashioned way) and political Web sites and blogs.

"They go on for me," he said. "I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon, getting on myself. I don't expect to be a great communicator, I don't expect to set up my own blog, but I am becoming computer literate to the point where I can get the information that I need."

Asked which blogs he read, he said: "Brooke and Mark show me Drudge, obviously. Everybody watches, for better or for worse, Drudge. Sometimes I look at Politico. Sometimes RealPolitics."

At that point, Cindy McCain, who had been intensely engaged with her BlackBerry, looked up and chastised her husband. "Meghan's blog!" she said, reminding him of their daughter's blog on his campaign Web site. "Meghan's blog," he said sheepishly.

As he answered questions, sipping a cup of coffee with his tie tight around his neck, his aides stared down at their BlackBerries.

As they tapped, McCain said he did not use a BlackBerry, though he regularly reads messages on those of his aides. "I don't e-mail; I've never felt the particular need to e-mail," McCain said.

There's the confirmation I was looking for.

McCain does not know how to get online.

This leads me to believe that McCain doesn't have a computer either, because getting online only requires opening up a browser.

I am surprised by this.



Back in 2004 I was shocked to find out that the internet candidate, Howard Dean, didn't read blogs online [ My video blog report ], he also had his staff do it for him.

I guess I shouldn't be shocked by these things anymore, but it's been four years...

FIX: iPhone camera will not save photos

After emptying my iPhone camera roll into iPhoto, the iPhone camera refused to save any new pictures for me anymore.

What? It didn't like my composition?

So I Googled for a solution and found this one. It's over on the Apple support message boards where everyone is wondering why there isn't an official response from Apple.

That's what I'd like to know... At least poster yeagz was kind enough to test out all the solutions and post a working one:

Apple - Support - Discussions - Camera will not save pictures to phone ...:

"Streamlined instructions:

1. Make sure your phone has been synchronized in the version of iTunes you are using.
2. Restore your phone. (in itunes in the summary tab click the restore button)
3. After JUST the phone settings are restored, DO NOT restore your personal information from a back-up. It will prompt you for this, don't close this screen just hold off on it for now.
4. Simply take a photo (no need to disconnect). The photo should now appear in the camera roll, as usual.
5. NOW go back to itunes and restore your personal information from a back-up.

Simple and easy. Fixed."

This works on iPhone Software Version 1.1.4

American Teen

We went to see a preview showing of American Teen at the ICA in Boston last night. It's a fun documentary about "seniors at a high school in a small Indiana town and their various cliques."

The ICA is a nice place to see a movie. Needs a little more leg room, but the sound system more than made up for it.

The movie was beautifully shot, and focused on the lives of four students. At the end of the film, I cared what happened to them, especially Hannah. She was the quirky, artistic girl. I told Carol that Hannah reminded me of a friend. She said Hannah reminded her of ALL my friends... Hmm. Yup. That's right.

The movie was so well done that sometimes you'd forget that it was a documentary, then remember that these kids are real.

Great soundtrack too. Imogen Heap's Frou Frou is in it with Breathe In [ YouTube Video ].

American Teen opens in theaters on July 25th.

At this vineyard you can sit outside on a porch, and they bring you wines to sample. It's a very relaxed atmosphere. Unlike some of the crowded, walk up to the bar type sampling rooms.

Barnett Vineyards is very unique. It's up on the hillside. You get to sample wines right where the barrels are stored. Afterwards you can take one of hte wines for a walk through thevineyard up to an overlook where, where there are no fires, you get an amazing view.

The road to this vineyard is very windy, up a lot of hills. Just when you think it can't get any narrower, there's a sign that says, Road Narrows. There are two trees on each side of the road. When we were there the next sign said, 'Road becomes one lane.' We were laughing about that one... They had some construction going on... Keep driving up the mountain and you'll get there. They are also doing a lot of work to drill into the mountain side to create a cave for storing wine. That'll be cool when finished.
