Steve Garfield, a video editor and website developer from Jamaica Plain, is selling Boston skyline photographs and artsy, colorful images of stacked fruit through Jivjiv as 99-cent phone wallpapers. ''It's like a totally new outlet for me," Garfield said. ''It's a good way to promote my stuff.

''Up until now, how would any band make a ring tone? I don't know," said Garfield, a friend and business partner of Wachs. ''With Jivjiv, you just upload it, and you don't have to know anything about programming."
