Real Choices

I want to listen to Chuck Olsen on Future Tense, but it requires Real Player.

So I ran Real Player and was presented with this dialog box:

Media Types
Select the media types that you want to play using RealPlayer.

What do I do now?

  1. I really hate Real Player. I usually end up having to install it every now and again, listening to what I want, then uninstalling it.

  2. Hey Steve,

I recommend unchecking them all except "RealNetworks Media Package". You can always change the settings by opening Real Player, going to Preferences->Media Types. In Media Types Preferences there is a "Tell Me More" Button that will send you to a web page with more info.

The problem is that sometimes QuickTime, Windows Media, and Real Player all want to get launched when you click on something. IIRC, after Microsoft "took over" some media types on Windows, Apple and Real came up with the "Ask, Tell, Help" policy.
