Check out Deval Patrick TV. Deval Patrick is using the Brightcove platform to let voters hear directly from him on the issues. From the press release:

After going to the DevalPatrick.tv website, the user chooses what to watch—a speech, a testimonial, a message from Deval on the issue that matters to them. How To: Linksys WRT54G Installation
OK, I just installed the Linksys WRT54G router on my Comcast modem.
I actually took the easy way out and used Carol's Dell laptop to run the Setup Wizard CD.
It was a good step by step tutorial telling me to unplug the existing connections and then guided me through physically connecting the cable modem to the router and then Stygian up a wireless network name, a password and security. I guessed at the security type though since there was no explanation as to what each security method meant.
Let's do a new speed test and see if there's any difference:
Speed Test 3:
Wired connection to Linksys WRT54G. This router supports speeds up to 54Mbps.
Sweet. Twice the download speed.
It's right at the same speed I would get if I was connected directly into the modem.

Wireless connection to Linksys WRT54G.
Hmm. The packets seem to be flowing nicely!

Monk gets on the boat to look around, but while he does, Natalie makes a gruesome discovery: Bill Gibbard's dead body floating in the water nearby. She calls Captain Stottlemeyer, but meanwhile, Jay Bennett has boarded his boat and taken off onto the open water with Monk!Adrian Monk getting on the boat was actually a 5 minute production of him making like Charlie Chaplin... attempting and then holding back... then thinking about it... then not getting on the boat.
That scene is one of the funniest of the season.

Previously, they sent an email telling me that I had to log onto their online system to see what my monthly balance was. I never did that.

On Wednesday I wrote a post saying that Doc Searls is Journalism because he took a picture of a moment in time and published it. It was a momnet that no one else captured, no big media was there. By saying that Doc Searls is Journalism, I was saying that all of us are reporters. If we all capture moments in text, audio and video, and publish them for others to share, we'll get a fuller picture of things that are happening.

You Can't Remix Revver Videos
I was trying to grab and excerpt of a Revver video to highlight in an upcoming episode of Vlog Soup.
Can't do it. You can't edit Revver videos in QuickTime Pro, FCP or iMovie.
Revver locks down the videos.

Boston Wireless RealPlayer PDF Force
I was just reading about the Boston Wireless Task Force.
The City of Boston is going to designate a non-profit entity to build an open network. This will be a 'wholesale' network, where 'retail' entities will be able to run competing WiFi solutions.
This includes companies like my cable company Comcast.
Comcast has already participated in a 'wholesale' network like this at Logan International Airport. Only you have to pay a daily rate to get on the network. I'm already a Comcast customer and pay them a lot of money to access the internet. My account should allow me to get on the network at the airport too. Comcast is Comcast, right?
Once we have WiFi all over Boston, I am NOT going to want to pay a daily charge or another monthly charge to get online.
When I was in San Francisco, there was free wireless everywhere, and that's PRIOR to Google installing their free solution.
If you go visit the task force website, you'll get a sense of how tuned in they are. Most of the site links to PDF files.
Lame.
And the video requires RealPlayer.
Ouch.
And don't get me started on bridging the digital divide. Wireless access alone won't bridge anything. Access to computers and teaching skills for participating in conversations are needed and the report states that existing community groups can do that.
Right now the best solution to getting WiFi access across Boston seems to be an EVDO card from Verizon.

Streaming isn't a success for me

I watched the rest of Psych at home last night, on my Mac. Carol was in another room and thought I was watching TV.
Downloading a show for playback is a much better method, than streaming. With streaming, you need to have a broadband connection. With a downloaded show, you can pause it, and resume playback wherever you left off.
"Disney-ABC Television Group announced that its two-month ad-supported web-streaming experiment yielded 16 million video streams and 5.7 million episode requests. Disney-ABC said last month the streaming program will be reinstated in October. "I took a look at the streams and they were very good, but on my plane flight home from Blogher, I watched Kyle XY, which I had downloaded from the iTunes Music Store. I also watched some of the pilot episode of Psych.

I just got another email from Citizens For Samiyah.
It includes a HUGE portrait of Samiyah and two attachments.
IMAGE TOO BIG
The first time I got an email like this from her, I replied and explained that the image was TOO BIG and sending something like that is not going to go over well with people because it's going to fill up their mailboxes.
ATTACHMENTS ARE NOT OPENED
Secondly, I told her that she shouldn't send out pdf's as attachments.
Send out a text email. A large percentage of people ARE NOT going to open the attachments to see what you have to say. Have you ever heard of computer viruses? People delete attachments all the time without reading them. I'm deleting yours.
If you are in love with your attachments, at least put SOME TEXT in the email to tell me what's inside the attached pdf files.
I'm voting for Sonia Chang-Diaz.

Steve Garfield of Massachusetts has been posting on a personal blog since 2000. He uploaded his first video in 2002 and started a video blog in 2004, making him one of the first to use the medium.
The clips chronicle everything from Garfield and his wife, Carol, recycling plastic bottles, to homemade films testing whether it's faster to get from Boston to New York by plane or train.
'It's a different way of telling a story, and some stories are better told with a video,' says Garfield.
And it creates a community that transcends borders, he says. He recently got an e-mail from a woman in Latvia who watches his video blog and chronicles her own daily life on a vlog.
'If the government wanted to start bombing Latvia, I'd think, 'Hey, I know someone in Latvia, and let's not bomb them,' ' he says. 'What we see in the news is just a general picture, and a lot of times you don't get to know the people. But with blogging you can, and that can change things for the better.'
Garfield subscribes to a number of blogs, written and video, and while he admits he likes to look at attractive people, it's the content that keeps him coming back. Stuff like watching his 80-year-old mother on her video blog trying to open sample perfume tubes.
'The people who I subscribe to, I'm not subscribing to them because of their looks, I'm subscribing to them because of the stories they tell,' he says. 'Why would I subscribe to a gorgeous woman who has nothing to say?'"
