911 is 617-343-4911 on a cellphone

JP Police’s State of the District Meeting:
"I learned that you’re supposed to call 911 for basically anything! Any little thing you observe matters, so it can be documented. If you’re using a cell phone, call 617-343-4911."

  1. I dont understand? Does 911 dial that whole number, like as a shortcut?

  2. I guess you are supposed to dial the whole number instead of 911. Waiting for Abby to reply...

Steve - apparently the calls get redirected through to the state system if you call from JP using a cell, so it takes a second to redirect. I actually experienced this when I called 911. Still, they responded really quickly.

Second - cellular calls to 911 in MA always go to the MSP barracks in Framingham. It’s a limitation of the system supposed to go away by 2007.
