Comcast Saga Continues.
Comcast just sent me a new email.

It says:
If you do not choose to use our easy Transition Wizard by June 30, 2003, you will not be able to take advantage of attbi.com e-mail forwarding, but you will still have high-speed Internet access.
Now they've resorted to threats?

This totally goes against the information on their website:
If you download and install the Transition Wizard, and use Outlook Express, your attbi.com e-mail will automatically be forwarded to your new Comcast.net address. If you do not use Outlook Express, visit http://connect.comcast.net on June 30th for manual instructions.
So I made a phone call to the Comcast help line and Tim helped me out:

He says, "I've gotten a few calls on this already."

End result of the phone call is that all email will be forwarded anyway and the email is incorrect.

They need someone over there at Comcast reading these emails before they get sent out to thousands of subscribers!

Tim also told that even though their earlier email told us to go over to attbi members services to pick a new Comcast email address, that there really isn't any instructions over at attbi on how to do this.

He suggested that I just make up a new associate email ID and that will carry over to Comcast on June 30th.

We shall see.

Customers will be given information including a CD to help them transition to the new network. Dr. Katz Sees Patients in Boston.
I went to see Tom Snyder and Jonathan Katz last night as part of the Boston International Film and Comedy Festival.

The told the story of how the Dr. Katz show was created. They initially did it in an IBM PC and and now use Flash.

The funniest story was about their first sound booth. It was in Tom Snyder's pantry, in his house in Newton Mass. Steven Wright went there to record for the show. After emerging from the pantry he said, "Don't let the word get out about this because everyone in LA is gonna want a pantry recording booth."

Trust me, it sounded funny when Tom Snyder immitated Steven Wright.

No word on a DVD of Dr. Katz episodes though since Tom and Jonathan don't own the rights. Some kid in the audience siad he bought the complete Dr. Katz series on DVD over on eBay. That's not values based.

Johnathan is one funny dude!

He showed a few pilot episodes of series that didn't get picked up, and a few clips from Dr. Katz shows.

Project Diary: Filming has started on our 72 Hour Film Project.

We're in today's Boston Globe in the Go section:
Marathon man
As a geek-in-training, we applaud the verve and immediacy of Boston artist Ravi Jain, who'll create a feature-length digital film at the Gallery@Green Street as part of the ''Cyber Lounge'' portion of the Boston Cyberarts Festival. Here's what tickled our interest: Jain will do all this in one 72-hour stretch that began at midnight to qualify for an international showcase of artists creating works under the same time constraints. Intriguing, yes? Check out his progress over the next few days.

Green Street Station, on the Orange Line, Jamaica Plain.
Update:
I got to the station at 4:30 AM and started off the day by doing a time-lapse shot over 20 minutes. After that, I filmed, while Ravi did man in the street interviews. We got some great stories from the commuters about what it means to them to have an art studio inside the train station.

We took a walk down the street and went into the Bread and Butter Bakery and interviewed the owners while they were baking! They were in the Boston Globe today too!
At 6 on a weekend morning, the smell of hot butter and raisins is creeping out over Washington Street. It wafts past a shuttered bodega, curls around the old brick warehouses and victorians in this hillside neighborhood in Jamaica Plain.
Mmm... good olive bread!

Beacon Hill: The Movie.
Michael Landes was great as Billy Dylan in this movie that was shot entirely around Boston. It played tonight at the Fenway AMC Theater as part of the Boston International Comedy and Movie Festival.

Sometimes these movies are a hit or miss affair, but I can honestly say that this one was a hit!

The photography showed off the city of Boston in an amazing way. The helicopter shots over the city were beautiful.

It was fun to see one of my favoruite local pubs in the movie, Doyle's of Jamaica Plain!

The movie was all about a freshman representative going to the state house for his first term and the obstacles he faces along the way. He also gets involved with a few lovely young ladies. One of whom he ended up marrying in real life, if I'm reading the credits correctly.

The music provided a nice background to the action. I liked it when we heard Irish music everythime the red head showed up.

I do have a couple of questions though:
Can Lenny Clarke really type? He had a small part as a campaign aide. I have no idea what he was doing to that laptop computer. Maybe that was the comedy part of the movie.

If you represent Jamaica Plain and leave the State House, how can you get on a Blue Line train and end up crossing the Charles River? I guess you were headed to Cambridge to meet some friends.

Finally, nice job Howie Carr. that was an easy gig for you just being yourself!

We apologize for the inconvenience. If you are unsatisfied with your new Comcast username and would like to select a new username, just visit ATTBI member services to select a new one. Please note the primary account owner must log onto this site to change all e-mail IDs.
Hello people.

I went to your web site, but there isn't any way to select a new user name at ATTBI member services!

I called customer support and they told me, "Oh, I got another call on this. We are transitioning the computers. Keep trying for a while and then try some more tomorrow. It should show up."

Hmm.. If I was working at ATTBI Comcast, I'd wait until all the links in my email worked before sending out the email!

Who needs this kind of frustration?

Transition Wizard to the Comcast High-Speed Internet service is not All Knowing.
I don't appreciate being treated like a child!

I just got the email from AT&T Broadband with information about the change to Comcast.

They want Macintosh users to use a Transition Wizard, on June 30th, to automatically make all the changes to out computers.
For most Windows and Macintosh users, the Transition Wizard is the easiest way to prepare for the transition. Manual instructions for configuring your computer for Comcast High-Speed Internet service will also be provided beginning June 30, 2003.
What!

I called Comcast and said that I'd like to have a look at the manual instructions before hand to familiarize my self with the procedure. The woman on the phone told me that , "No, we are not making them public until June 30th because we don't want people changing their settings early."

D'oh!

Hello lady, I'm an adult and not a child!

Of course I want to change things manualy, especially when their web page says things like this:
The transition to Comcast High-Speed Internet service includes changing your e-mail address and start page.

Additionally, if you download and install the Transition Wizard, and use Outlook Express, the Transition Wizard will automatically update Outlook Express and your start page while retaining your current e-mail and Internet preferences when the transition is completed later this summer.
Hello lady!

If you people assume that I've kept the AT&T web page as my start page, you are just kidding yourselves, or you have no clue as to what actual people are using their computers for. And if you think the majority of people are using Outlook Express on a Macintosh, you are totally insane! We are using the OS X mail application or Microsoft Entourage.

I feel like I'm back dealing with AOL customer support again.

Waiting for the disaster to strike on June 30th.

Can you please send me the manual instructions ahead of time so I can look them over?

I promise that I'll wait until June 30th to implement them.

UPDATE: Here's the response I got:
Thank you for writing to Comcast.

Unfortunately we are unable to send those settings at this time. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. We will be e-mailing the settings in late June.

I have forwarded your comments to the appropriate members of our development and management teams for further review and action. We appreciate that you took the time to help us keep our commitment to quality customer care.
They care.

I Almost Went Up In Flames Tonight.
IN AMERICA, SOMEONE is burned every 17 seconds.
I've only been using a gas stove for three years, so when I reached over the stove, to see if the meatballs I had in the microwave oven were done, I was surprised when the flames from the gas stove set my shirt on fire!

I looked down to see the flames climbing up my shirt. I quickly patted on the flames to stop them. They were pretty insistent at trying to crawl all the way up my shirt, but as I kept hitting them they subsided and finally stopped.

Whew!

My hands didn't even get burned. The dinner came out fine and I'll be careful around the stove from now on.

You be careful too.

Yup. Me too.

We went to see Rob Becker's Defending the Caveman at the Wilbur theater last night.

I was laughing so hard that I was crying. Rob Becker was so funny, that I wished he would just stop talking for a few seconds so that I could regain my composure. I think that my sides were actually splitting, I was laughing so hard.

I hadn't expected much going into this play. I figured I'd hear jokes about the TV and remote control, and about how women like to nurture the shows vs. men who like to zip through the channels really fast.

He did tell l that joke, but he also got to the bottom of the reason that I can't hear my wife talk while I'm watching TV.
This hunter attitude affects everything we do. When we watch TV, we become the TV. We merge with the TV. I’m aware of a buzzing sound in the background, and it’s not coming from the TV. It gets louder and louder and suddenly I realize that my wife is standing right next to me, shouting, “Haven’t you been listening to me?"
It all has to do with the basic differences between men and women, and goes back to the caveman days.

Go see the play and you'll understand.

Milla Jovovich stars with Adrien Brody in Dummy , an indie pic that marks the directing debut of Greg Pritikin, who also wrote the script.

Joshua, Christine and I went to go see it this evening. Getting into the theater was troubling since we had to cross a picket line of people yelling scab at us. There are posts from them here and here.

We didn't actually cross the picketline, we just went behind it.

And I wasn't a scab because I was not a person hired to replace a striking worker.

Don't get me started about parking in Sommervile. Nightmare.

The movie, Dummy, soon made all the trouble getting into the theater well worth it.

From the opening shots I knew we were in for a treat. The photography was very well done and the acting was perfect.

Adrien Brody's performance at times reminded me of Charlie Chaplin, and Writer/Director Greg Pritikin confirmed his influence, in the Q and A that followed the film.

Milla Jovovich was powerful in her roll as a failing rock and roll singer who switches to singing Yiddish music to try to make a success of her band.

Illeana Douglas, as Adrian's sister, gave a stand out performance.

You can see Dummy on May 2nd at the Sommerville theater at 2:00 PM. It's part of the Independent Film Festival of Boston.

It's going to have a stong word of mouth just like My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I hope it gains as much success.

Fights break out occassionally, but this is not a real issue, because eventually, the dogs learn to get along. Every now and then some dogs gang up and kill and then eat another dog, but this is just natural, and it's okay for it to happen now and then, but normally this is not the case
